And there may be 4 or 5 dealerships (key word: Dealerships) in the country that are worth going to because they are drastically different....maybe 4...or 3... or...

You can definitely count the "special" dealerships on one hand.  I've been to most of 'em....so let's see.

OK....I'm done, now.

Maybe you'd count NPR in Watkinsville, GA, just because of it's links to the old Cycle Specialties of Athens.  Maybe.

I begin my invasion of the Confederacy in 2 days. I will be riding from Long Island, NY to Harrisburg, PA to meet my friend Frank, who will be coming from Ithaca, NY. From there, we will wend our way through western Maryland into northern Virginia, stopping the first night in Front Royal. That will put us at the beginning of the Skyline Drive. The Skyline is a 105 mile ride and will leave us at the entrance of the Blue Ridge Pkwy.

I need to speak with El Matador, who has the experience and many good suggestions. We will go as far south as we can on Thursday on and off the BRP. Friday, we will get through Asheville, NC and on to Tenn via the Tail of the Dragon. From there, it's south to Blairsville, GA and will end at my daughter's home in Cumming, GA.

We haven't planned our return trip yet.

I will be riding my '01 M900 and Frank will be an '00 Honda Interceptor 800. It looks like our possible third will not be making the trip.

I will have my Blackberry, a camera  and my netbook, so I will try to post photos.

As I have said before, I will post about the ride, but I cannot promise that it will be as entertaining as Desmolu's and El Matador's opus of last summer.

I only lived in western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee for about 40 years, Nic.  I'm not sure I know any of the good roads in that area.   ;D

If you've got time whilst you're in the area of US 129 (Deal's Gap), you should try the Cherohala Skyway between Robbinsville, NC and Tellico Plains, TN.  Also, NC 28 from Deal's Gap through Franklin and Highlands all the way to Walhalla, SC is excellent (especially south of Highlands).  Warwoman road from 28 over to Clayton, GA is also good.  NC 215 from the BRP down to US 64 is excellent.  TN 68 southward from Tellico Plains to Blairsville, GA is lots of fun, too.  Also GA 60 from Morganton to Dahlonega is a blast....though watch for cops in that area.  If you go down 60 be sure to stop at TWO (Two Wheels Only) campground for the best hamburger within 100 miles.  Whilst you're there, ask about the "Cooler Loop" which encompasses 180 (Wolfpen Gap Road) and US 129 down Blood Mountain, both excellent roads!  (again, watch for LEOs).

Need I continue?  Let me know if I do.    ;D

Cloner- excellent, excellent tips. I figured on passing through Blairsville, because then it's a straight shot to Cumming, GA. We're in no particular hurry, so we will be on the lookout for enjoyable places to ride.

I need to think about the Virginia portion of the trip. We'll be starting in Front Royal Thurs morning and heading down the Skyline. El Matador says no way we can make Asheville, NC by Thurs night. So, I need a reasonable destination to reach in one long day of riding twisties and stopping at scenic overlooks.

You can easily do it in a day if you're just trying to get there...but why would you?

Try Roanoak (the start of the BRP) or Hillsville for a stop in Virginia, or Mt. Airy, NC on the NC/VA border if you want to get that far.  Mt. Airy is the little town Mayberry was patterned after in the Andy Griffith Show.   ;D

US Highway 58 between Damascus, VA and Independence, VA is one of my favorite stretches of asphalt in the world!  From Hillsville, VA (on the BRP) you can take US 221/58 to Damascus, then Route 133 south to Shady Valley, NC, then go back eastward on US 421 and join US 321 through Boone, then jump back onto the BRP at Blowing Rock, NC if you want a good loop to ride just for the fun of it.  If you mess up and stay on US 321 for about 40 miles you'll end up at Hickory, NC where I was hatched.  If you mess up like that, stop and say "Hi" to Mom for me.   ;D

Oh....I just went to the Outback on I-25 for lunch and saw my illegitimate son, Anson.   [evil]  He appears to be doing well and seemed very responsible and all.  I'm so proud of him.  You would be, too, Bonfy.    ;D

Thanks, Hon, for staying in his life like such a responsible dad.  Now that we have recognition of paternity, how about those back child support payments?
