David posted this after last falls H.C. trip so I thought I'd bring this over from TOB.

Quote from: hiero;2065571I know a few of you expressed some interest in the chutney that I brought along this weekend. here's the recipe!

2 cups packed fresh cilantro, chopped (I just break up two bunches with my hands into managable portions for a food processor)
1/2 cup chopped scallion (green onions work in a pinch)
1/4 cup sweetened flaked coconut (although i like a bit more than 1/4 cup)
2-4 jalapenos (however spicy you like it)
3 tablespoons vegetable oil (I use olive oil, extra virgin for another level of flavor)
1 1/2 tablespoons of finely grated ginger (or just cut a hunk off and dump it in the food processor with everything else)
Lime juice to taste (I like to use about 4 limes)

throw all the ingredients in a food processor or blender and churn away! tastes even better if you stick it in the fridge for a couple of hours before use [thumbsup]

and don't forget that if you put a few tablespoons of the stuff in your favorite bbq sauce, it's freakin killer! [clap]

I warn you though, this stuff is like crack! I grilled some ribs with this recipe ala HC style tonight, and I pigged out like a mofo! I looked up sheepishly at my dog after 10 minutes of intense carnivorous concentration and she was like "WTF? I've never seen you scarf like that!" Normally she looks at me with big brown woeful eyes like she hasn't been fed in days, but tonight she was seriously concerned that I had turned into some sort of psychotic werewolf. Crack I tell you; pure unadulterated addiction.  [thumbsup]

Thanks Hiero!  ;D

Can't say enough good things about the chutney.

Someone should get this in jars at Whole Foods & make a fortune [thumbsup]

Great stuff indeed--just ask the HC Harley riders and their families.  [laugh]

RichD ought to post up his recipe as well.  [thumbsup]

If I'm not mistaken, its origins are English.  It's basically jelly for meat...

Wonder if they make jelly for tofu?

<sigh>  carnivores.  chutneys are condiments.  they come wet and dry.  they are used on all sorts of foods, not just for lavishly spreading on road kill or mercilessly slaughtered animals.

you kids and your meat....

...reading this as I eat TWO marinated 12oz. fillet mignons*...  (and braised onions, squash, and sweet corn-on-the-cob too!)

Thinking I could REALLY use some Cilantro chutney right now!!!

*I have it on good authority the moo-cow I am currently consuming requested no mercy.  In fact it was manic-depressive...

prolly a little tmi but the origin is actually s.e. asian from the word "chatni" - mainly Indian and basically equivalent to relish. but you know those bloody English do try to give themselves credit for everything.

If anyone is into Indian cuisine, this chutney is the traditional recipe for dipping samosas - a traditional Indian snack of yummy filled pastry awesomeness. I'll try to bring some to the next trip to go with the chutney!
