Introduction of a new rider

Stinson

Hello DFWM's,

My name is Stinson B., I am new to ridding, and I thought I'd introduce myself to the local Duc guys/gals.  I pick up my new (to me) 07 S2R 800 from AMS tomorrow and I am overly excited.  I grew up around motorcycles and dirtbikes; I've always had a love for the two wheelers.  I've ridden a few street bikes, here and there, but never enough to call myself an experienced rider.  I rode and owned dirtbikes for many years but I've always felt that they were a lot safer (no cages to hit you)!  I've wanted a street bike ever since I was a kid (12) but I have waited for my maturity level to grow before buying a "toy" that could kill me.  Now at the age of 29, I think that I've grown enough to properly manage this new exciting responsibility/hobby.  I completed my MSC last week and purchased insurance today...  Tomorrow I complete the written exam and should be headed to AMS to pick up my new mistress (weather permitting; I'm not taking my bike for its first ride in the rain).  I've been lurking on this board since my first visit to AMS a few weeks ago, you all seem like a nice group of people, and I can NOT wait to improve my skills to a level where I can safely ride with you guys.

I've already caught the bug and started modifying the cosmetics of the S2R...  It's funny, my girl friend is already busting my balls about all the "BS" I've bought for the bike that I don't own yet.  She has no idea how bad this constant need to change things may get!  lol.

I'm sure I will have many questions about this new hobby and I hope you guys will be patient with me while learning.  If you have any tips or links to some good reading material, I'd love to have them.  I truly value my life and want to learn as much as possible before getting into a "situation".  I plan on taking the Advanced Class this fall after getting some decent riding experience.

In the meantime, Cheers and Safe Riding,
Stinson

Ah I think you're buying my old bike.  Glad to see someone will give it a good home.  I really loved that thing to death and miss it from time to time.  Comfy, lots of fun, and surprisingly quick in the twisties.  Keep the rubber side down and welcome to the crowd!

No shit bro!!!! Hey, she's your GF not your wife. Completely different set of rules. We need to talk! [beer] No. Dax and I need to talk to you!! [laugh] You get to mod the shit out of it every time she buys a new pair of shoes. Do you give her grief over a pair of her new black flats? Then why should she care about your vented clutch cover and groovy pressure plate?

Wait... did he get Jester's old bike?? Damn, it still runs after all the WFO reaming he did on that bike? I never knew desmo Ducatis could experience valve float until I met Jester! Rev limiter be damned! And I kept telling him he should really change the oil sometime but he'd say "Ahhh, it's just a waste of money". [bang] Does it still veer real bad to the left? I swear that frame looked OK after the highside. Hmmm. I don't know. Just lean more to the right I guess. [thumbsup]

OK, welcome to the madness and you now have officially been initiated! [laugh] If it's Jacob's then it's a good one, very well taken care of. Congrats on taking a chance on a toy that could kill you. [laugh] It's totally worth it. This is my 46th year of riding and they haven't killed me yet!! Looking forward to meeting you and getting in some rides... check with me in the fall when it gets under 100 degrees! ;D

Welcome, Stinson.
Ducatis like gas, and plenty of it.
Full gas it and you'll never go wrong. [evil]

Welcome Stinson. Not to worry, I took my MSF Aug09, bought my Multistrada late Sept09 and have since logged over 6k miles on it (Thanks Tres!) this weekend. You're in for a real treat.  [thumbsup]

It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Welcome.  Bring your new toy to the coffee and cars gathering Saturday morning in Plano.  At least 3 of us are going as of this afternoon.  I would like to see your new bike.  I rode the new 796 and 1100 this past weekend and really like the Monster.  You will have a blast.

Glad to have you in the gang, Stinson.  Come ride with us.

Thanks for the welcome guys.  I've had the bike for two days and I am already hooked.  I can not wait for this rain to go away for good.  I've managed to log about 100 miles in the past two days between the showers.  For now, the weather is clear and I'm going riding!

Jester, I assume it is your bike if it was the used (10K miles) red S2R.

Fastwin, she just likes to give me a hard time... it goes both ways.

Hiero, Awesome and thanks.

Rick, I'm considering riding out to Cars and Coffee but the weather and my Friday night will determine whether or not.  If I don't ride out there, I will definitely take my car.  I've been out there before and was impressed with the showing.
