DC inspection...no question, just a tale.

Wow! Just, wow! Finally rode over to get my DC inspection done knowing that I likely wouldn't pass since I broke the left mirror in my bridge joint encounter but wanted to know what else would need to be fixed before it would pass. Walk up to the counter and tell the guy I need an inspection. He chats me up for 20 minutes while clicking the mouse and typing on the computer. Stands up to come outside for what I think is an inspection, sticks a sticker on my fork and says, "Ride safe and see you in 7 years." This was much better than the cars lined up half st and around the corner on I. I'm sure glad the lady at the tag office told me to just drive the bike up to the front of the building instead of waiting in the line. I can't even make it out of the public library that fast in DC!!!!

Your story is the complete opposite of a friend of mine... Her bike was all ship shape and it still took her a few hours. When it comes to this, I'm so glad I live in va and the closest inspection place knows me and lets me skip the line.

also the complete opposite of the story that I recall from when Ryan had taken Erin's 620 to DC inspection and he ended up having to draft a legal-esque letter to get it all resolved...man that was an escapade...

I have been living in the district for a little while, and have taken a couple bikes and cars through the inspection.  Whenever I have showed up with a bike, I have gotten waved through the inspection process.  The guys always tell me how they all ride, and just give me the sticker.

I don't know if you knew this or not, but there are no safety inspections in DC.  So, your mirror wasn't an issue.  They got rid of them last year I believe.  There is still one emissions inspection, but that's it.  So, that's really all you got was an emissions inspection, not safety inspection.  I actually ripped that sticker off my bike (blue sticker) and have never had a problem.

Sounds like DC has turned inspections into a money making venture. Regardless, I'm glad it was a no nonsense experience for me and that it's good for 7 years.

This process is brand new effective several months ago. DC as a whole no longer inspects non commercial vehicles every 2 years.  You get one inspection and you are done.  The  motorcycle inspection is a breeze and I do mean a breeze. I really should not call it an inspection. But I am happy!  [thumbsup]  .  Vanity tags doubled in cost. Ahh the life  in dc.  come on  CCW ! [wine]

You would think that they'd multiply the inspection fee by 7yrs, but they didn't.  Maybe they haven't wised up to it yet.  Shhh....
