I'm in the bay area for a few weeks. I'm looking for some things to do in the evening. It's been a long time since I've been home. Are there any decent bars/nightlife for this evening? Places to grab a drink and admire the local "scenery." Someplace that won't be dead.

Looking in the Contra Costa area concord, p.hill, Martinez , walnut creek.

Try Pizza Antica in Lafayette.

Bliss Bar in SF's Noe Valley (yes, it appears that NV actually tries to have some sort of nightlife) was just voted #5 cougar bar in the country by Maxim. 

So there's always that option.
