tung

name: Tung

age: 35

current bike: Monster 1100

history: only ever owned Ducs, onto my third one now. Can't imagine buying anything else (have been brainwashed).
1. Ducati 620 Sport (same engine as the Monster 620, but in the sport body)
2. Ducati 848 (in white, loved it thoroughly)
3. Ducati Monster 1100 (much more practical than the 848, but i miss the 848 on the track)

Wanted a Suzuki GS 500 as my first learner bike. Did a tonne of research and decided that was the best bike to learn on. Enough power, won't get bored after 3 months, reliable, economical, low seat height etc.

I went to Frasers to see what bikes were available (back in the day when thy sold jap bikes). Saw a yellow learner legal Ducati Sport for $8,000. It very tall (tipy toe) for a learner, it had a very aggressive riding position (for a learner), it had a hard suspension (for a learner). So I bought that instead of the Suzuki, despite all my resera ch. I've been making dubious brand choices since.

Riding:
- Only ridden 3 years or so, discovered motorcycling late in life
- Converted 6 different friends to get their motorcycling license (evangelist)
- Odd Sunday ride with small group of friends (2 or so a month)
- 3-4 Tours a year to Snowy, Oxley, MotoGP
- Plan for more track days (6-8 times a year)

Betty

Welcome aboard Tung.

Will be interesting having you along on the group ride ... I don't think we have had an 1100 on a Sydney ride before (we are obviously an old fashioned/traditional bunch ;)).
Believe post content at your own risk.

Hey Tung,

Nothing wrong with starting your motorcycling career later in life there are a few of us who have done so
myself included, having jumped on a 620 for 2 years now being on the S4Rs.
Hope you can join us out for a ride sometime soon.

cheers
Matty...

Welcome Tung

Ah yes it is like the old saying  - once you have a Duke you never go back (or something to that effect)...

I wonder what the definition is for starting motorcycling late in life?  I think that is a relative question actually.  The fact is you are now riding a bike and enjoying the freedom, individuality (except Betty who conforms  [cheeky]), and general comradeship that owning a Ducati brings!  [moto] [thumbsup]

both parked next to my brothers white k9 gsxr1000.

I recently brought the Ducati off a family member who had owned it since new but only ran and rego'd the bike for 1 year before he parked it as his bung knee didn't agree with mid/rear sets.

I currently run a Laser game business for a living yet hope to one day maybe use my biotech degree i finished years ago.
