we talked about it yesterday and said it was 300lbs take home.

He said it was a huge cow. Said the meat wasn't as good as the last one he bagged, but I imgine, just like fish, younger ones tend to be better eating.

I finally got to shoot it today and I think I'm really gonna like this one.  I just need to do something with the trigger.  Holy shit, that thing is heavy!  That's really the only problem I have with it.

What don't you like about the trigger?

(never shot a FAL)

I am sure you can put a lighter trigger in if that is the issue.

What's the weight difference on the FAL and the M1 Scout?

Like most military based rifles it's not going to have a "target trigger" as stock but I bet you will notice it improving the more you shoot it and it wears in some. My FN-FALs don't exactly have match grade triggers (no more than most stock AR platform rifles do) but they ceratinly have improved over time. I have a Springfield M1A National Match and it's had a little massaging done by a gunsmith and it helped with the creep and it's got a nice/decent crisp break. Not exactly like a thin glass rod snap but still OK. And yes, it is better than the FALs but that doesn't keep me from loving mine!! [thumbsup] Maybe DSA has a custom shop (like Kimber, etc.) that could offer up a little trigger work. Don't know myself but it might be worth looking into. ;D

Yeah, I wasn't expecting a match trigger but this thing has got to be close 12 lbs.  I've never seen anything like it.  I'm gonna put a few rounds through it first but I don't think it'll do more than smooth it out a bit.  I'll get around to getting it lightened up eventually.  For now, though, I'm just gonna shoot it.

Sounds like a plan! Yep, just shoot it! I have never fired a DSA but I have heard and read many good things about them. Years ago I read (don't remember the mag) a story about one of those torture tests gun mags like to run. It was on DSA FAL and man I was really impressed at the punishment it took and kept on functioning. Damn, it was like an AK!! Mud, water, sand, virtually no cleaning and it ate mag after mag after mag!! Wore the damn testers out! Gotta love that! Bet that trigger was nicely worn in!! [laugh]

Don't remember if this has been mentioned in any of our gun threads or not, but since the FAL has been brought up, you should check out 'Ol Dirty.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Sweet. Just supports my feelings and backs up the gun mag article. Good tough guns... everyone should have one! [thumbsup]

I felt good about it from the beginning.  I've wanted a FAL for years but was in Jersey until 2008.  Now that I'm making good money outside of the PRNJ, I could finally get one.  I've been looking at DSA's for a while and was pretty much set on one, I just didn't know which one it would be.  And, honestly, I didn't really even care.  Hell, I just happened to see this one at the bottom of the wall behind the counter in the shop.  I didn't even realize it was a DSA until I looked close.

Austria was one of the most recent users of the FAL, their infantry weapon was the STG-58.  When they stopped using it, and sold off the surplus, DSA bought almost everything.  They basically have a huge warehouse full of de-milled STG58s to draw parts from.  They make their own receivers and imported the barrels before the barrel ban so they are the cheapest making "new" guns.  I have never seen a bad STG58 from them.
