I know it has been discussed on the board elsewhere before ... but I'm gonna need some help/info.

As a track day virgin is there anything I need to do beforehand, etc, etc?

I will be riding down and I don't want to be pulling things apart and all that stuff, do they supply tape? Is there anything I need to know or anything you care to share?

I'll have a bag with me, which you're more than welcome to chuck blinkers and mirrors and stuff into.  You can probably just pull the fuse for your lights so they don't bug people.

Ok Betty,

First of all don’t rush; you are there for a full day. If you are not ready for the first session doesn’t sweat do the next one
When you arrive you will find lots of information on the sheet given to you when you first enter.
You will then need to take your machine to be scrutinized.

Get your bike to the allocated garage and set it up (normally listed on the sheet) I will text Matty with the garage # on the morning.

Note:
If you are in the white group I suggest don’t be late, make your way to registration first up as it gets busy and you may miss your first session.

This is how it goes during scrutinizing of your bike.

The look for oil around the forks.
Fluid leaks of any kind will not pass so if you have a small weeping one, wipe it before hand.

I may be doing the scrutinizing on the day, so I accept bribes such as eggs, chickens, fruit baskets prosciutto ,mortadella  ,I think you get my drift .

Any exposed wear indicators and the tire will be knocked back.
Make sure your chain is tensioned correctly.
Make sure you have bar ends.
Make sure your brakes front and back have plenty of pads and the leaver doesn’t feel spongy.
No gear sack racks unless you can remove the upper section and have the plugs or cross bar for the lower part .
No lap timers,No video cameras on the bike.
You can have your mirrors taped on the day by staff or remove them before hand.
Yes there is tape at the track.

Small note:
check you oil filter is tight as mine has come undone twice now in as many months, It’s not a good felling as you go around turn 9 with oils on your rear tire.

Normally if you machine looks like a junker they will go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Your gear.

No short gloves they need to cover your leathers and they must be predominantley leather.
If you have a two piece suit it needs to be able to zip up at the back.
Full face helmet only.
Boots need to be proper riding boots .

I highly recommend that you listen carefully during the 9am briefing and take the first timer lap with Big All, he is the guru.

Follow All’s lines and respect the information given to you during the briefing and you will have a great day.

Make sure you pay attention and understand the flags during your session as they are there for safety reasons. It’s not hard, there are only 3... Red, Yellow and checkered.they will explain the meaning during the briefing.

Don’t be scared to approach the staff if you have any questions you want find anyone more informed on track condition than them.

I will be in the monsters lair Sat so I’m happy to help you get started in the morning.

If you are using street tires set the pressure to 30 front and back, it’s a good starting point .If you are riding to the track set them at the track, not beforehand.

Bring some fluids as it gets hot out there .bring some food as the food is   out there.

Bring some bike cleaning stuff so if it rains you can polish my 1198.

Other than that it’s just like a normal ride you would do on the open road with your buddies, but lots safer and way more fun.

haha, can you polish ghetto flat black and primer fairings? 



I normally get there at between 7-7:15. You might end up waiting around at the gate for a wee bit, but that way you aren't rushed when you get in and you can get setup and scrutineering done with with loads of time to spare. It's all actually fairly straight forward and nothing to be nervous about.

great run thru Doc ......only other thing is get julie to bring some folding chairs.....so you can sit down ....that cold cement gets hard after a while......

This is my list for a track day.

Leathers/Boots/Gloves
Socks x 2
Helmet x 2 (sweaty in summer) plus visors and cleaner.
Pump/Tyre gauge
Rear stand (carried by someone else)
Plate removal/taped
Paper work filled out beforehand
Lunch/Water/Jelly lollies
Small tools
Folding (as mentioned by Hambo)

Oh and don't forget everyone we have a garage booked in the name of Oz Monsters.
It is also a Ducati factory support day so the big red shiny truck will be out there.

Apparently helping with suspension setup, etc ... is that a worthwhile exercise? Is it likely to be busy?

Now I am stressed!
Ordered some track parts (for the MV) like Fairings, Headlight removal Kit, Mono Posto Subframe (to suit a single seat) about 4 weeks ago. Got the fairings but no subframe or headlight bracket yet. My bike is in about 2000 peices eagerly awaiting their arrival  . I have been holding out waiting for the bits.
Looks like I am going to have to install all the original stuff again  . There are a couple of late nights ahead  .

I have only been to one & just remember ride within your abilities (or disabilities) There is no pressure to do anything.

Once you have done a couple of sessions it will click & you'll settle into a routine, just relax and enjoy !!

Oh and remember that you can never have too much power........It's only too much if you use it incorrectly.

Just in case anyone is interested, I have booked my bike in for suspension settings with these guys --> swracing.com.au They are set up in one of the pit garages at ECR, it costs about $70 from memory. I had them do adjustment at the last track day and they found that the rear spring was too lite so I now have a new Shock and spring installed so I'll get them to dial the bike in for me. You get to have the adjustments done then ride it straight away, give feedback and have the changes made for you throughout the day. Its like having your own pit engineer 
I reckon its good value...

not sure of the number as yet but it is likely to near the middle of the pit lane, close-ish to the

What a great day.

Besides a few woe's for Betty's new machine which turned out to be a bunch of bad connections.
Everyone had a flawless day day otherwise, except for Vince of course who spent more time pulling
his bike apart than riding it.

Now lets see some of the evidence from Suzyj and Monstar_100 and J5 who came along to snap the action.
