i think i've only seen one duc rider wearing leathers on the road so far this year.. almost all of them had jeans and a t-shirt..

I always wear at MINIMUM a helmet, gloves and leather riding jacket, this is when commuting to work and hanging out with friends. When I go on my weekend rides which are a lot more intense I wear helmet, jacket, gloves, A* riding pants, A* riding boots..

I'm only 22 and people my age as well as older riders I'm friends with (harley guys) give me shit all the time for wearing a jacket. I figure they will understand when they go down and their bones are grinding into the pavement.

I went down at 30mph. I had on a brand new leather jacket, helmet, gloves, good boots, and jeans. First impact point was hand and elbow. Ripped the palm of my gloves but never made it through the padding. My fore arm and elbow hit next. Never felt a thing. Could tell by the way the stitching tore though that I was really happy to have cow hide and CE armor there. My knee cap hit next. Yup, felt that one, right through the jeans onto my upper thight. The multi tool I had in my pocket stopped the pavement from touching my skin though. I got the knee scar to remind me that each time I go out it better to be uncomfortable in leather than uncomfortable in the ER. I got lucky and could ride home, but I was scared to look at my knee for a solid five minutes. 

^ wow, that sounds intense. For a moment I thought you were going to say the multi tool went into your leg or something. Crap, I should really stop riding in jeans....

I think that all of us would love to say that we wear full leathers all the time. We would be lying. We don't all live in areas that have perfect riding weather. What I wear in Florida is completely different from what I would wear in the Bay area. Same is when you're talking about to where you are riding. When I lived in Georgia I would commute to work. When the weather was pleasant, I would use my over pants. In summer I would never be able to ride with over pants if I expected to get to work with my pants not full of sweat. So please no holier than thou attitude from the peanut gallery.

^ I can understand that. Some days I ride it's nearly 100F out. That may not seem bad but here in PA the humidity is always extremely high. The heat can make you feel sick, tired, and exhausted. If I wore full Gear I would never make it to work. Helmet and jacket obviously, but overpants or leathers, not a good idea. I have felt nauseous while riding from the heat before.

Riding in that kind of heat can lead to heat stroke very easily. In my case, helmet and gloves all the time. For normal rides I wear boots and at least a mesh jacket. As it gets progressively colder, I add gear.

Same here. Although I try to always wear my jacket. Though I only have one jacket and its a non perf leather so it gets hot.
