ATGATT for me.

I explain to people:  Falling down can hurt, walking and falling hurts more, running and falling hurts even more, falling on pavement at 35 mph can hurt really bad, falling at highway speeds can HURT A LOT!  I'm a wimp and don't want to be a skin donor to the pavement.

I also view gear like seatbelts.  Unlikely that I'll use it, but it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I don't have leather pants, but my textile pants have armor.  When it's hot, I wear my kevlar jeans over knee pads and my mesh, armored jacket.  When it's really hot, I drive.

Kevlar jeans don't so a damn thing in a wreck except for shred. The knee pads will certainly help though!!

has anyone ever made their own protective pants?

i totally squidded it up the other day.

Board shorts, running sneakers, t shirt, gloves helmets and hearing protection.

More gear = more riskier riding, pay attention, keep the speed and intensity down, and Its really not that big of a deal. just dont be going on the FDR at 75mph and cutting people off. With or without gear your asking for it...
