How do you feel about heights?

I was recently on top of a high rise, working on a bid, think it was 320'.  Also work at cell towers, but on the ground, not sure I could climb some of the taller ones.
Every bike I've ever owned.

This was one of my first jobs when I was an apprentice.....

There is a cage that goes around the outside that a cleaner gets into to clean the windows. The tradesman & I had to change the bearings in the trolley that holds the cage onto the 'I' beam. The cage was being held up with some rope while we took the trolleys off. I don't really mind working at height, it's working kilometres underground that would scare the shit out of me.  :o

I remember it was pretty windy up there. With all the safety procedures we have to go through these days, there is no way we would have done it the way we did.  :P
I like a drink. You know when people say 'I like a drink as much as the next man'? Not if I'm the next man, you don't.

First off I want to thank everyone for the great response I got on the video “Stairway to Heaven”, it was really much more than I could have hoped for. Now, having said that I am also very sorry that I could not keep the video up for you to share with your friends and family. I truly am sorry, I can see from the comments how popular it was and that’s why I want to explain what happened.

The footage of the climb came from a friend of mine that does this type of work, I have know him for several years and he has helped me many times in the past. Recently he gave me this video he shot on one of his jobs. I showed him the edited video and he approved it and I put it up on TheOnLineEngineer.Org and You Tube over the weekend. On Monday he was getting calls from colleagues telling him that they were concerned about what the video showed. His world is a very small one, and you don’t want to bite the hand that feeds you! Some facility owners are pretty uptight about liability and such and may not hire him if they think he does not take safety seriously.

So he asked me to take it down, and I did. That was Monday morning (Sep 13, 2010). Today (Sep 15) he told me it was up on You Tube, by the time I looked at it it had over 77,000 views. It was on more than a dozen websites. The chance that someone important would see it was increasing rapidly. So the video most of you saw was one that had been ripped off from my website before I took it down. I wrote asking the guy who put it up to take it down but got no response so I contacted You Tube.

Once again I am sorry about pulling the video, I know that every time I looked at it my legs got weak, there’s no way I could do that type of work. AND THATS MY POINT â€" I need this guy who made the video, we plan to do more of them, but it won’t happen if he can’t get work because he’s been black listed by the industry. He’s also my friend and I don’t want to see him get hurt because of some video I put up on the internet.

We have had two offers to broadcast this video, a request to submit it to a film festival in France, over 118,000 views on You Tube. This was all much more than we had ever planned for or thought would happen.

AS SOON AS WE CAN WE WILL HAVE MORE VIDEOS ABOUT TOWER CLIMBING, in the mean time please be patient.

And once again thank you for all the comments.

I am a short dude. Anything above 6 feet is too high for me.

Heights have NEVER - EVER phased me,
Hitting the ground from said height is what scares the s**t out of me.

Not a big fan of heights. A big part of why I don't enjoy flying much.

Speaking of which, I was in Chicago most of the week and in the airport yesterday waiting for the return flight I saw a woman with a parachute around her neck on the front of her body. I thought, "wow, and I thought I hated to fly!" More than likely it was just easier for her to lug around (had a backpack on also) but it was amusing.....

Swinging a hammer or a paintbrush at the upper end of a 36' extension ladder is my limit as long as the perch is steady and not flexing...

I prefer scaffolding beyond that

however standing at the edge of a roof or cliff and looking down is NOT something I am comfortable with beyond maybe 3 feet of altitude...or less

I missed both of the video clips   :-\

I never had a problem with heights until '03 when I went to the top of the Stratosphere in Vegas and rode the Bigshot ride and that d*mn rollercoaster that always seemed to go off the tracks.  I paid extra too for an unlimited pass but I couldn't get down from that tower fast enough..especially when it started it sway!  It made things tough trying to get me on the small gondal rides in northern Italy soon after that.  Those things move all over if it's windy!!  I dont particulaly care for being out on highrise balconies either now.  Although, I didn't have much of a problem at Stella's place in Denver.

I actually think this fear all stems from watching people jump from the twin towers.

I have a mild phobia about tall bridges.  I'm working on it.  I took up rock climbing once and didn't like it, something about hundreds of feet up hanging by my finger tips and lots of time to think about what to do next.
