he was one of the REALLY good ones.

Oh man, so sorry to hear, Izaak.  I read the Post article maybe 20 minutes ago.  So much sadder when the victim becomes real.

Though I don't practice, for Ronan, family and freinds

Accident happen.  We need to live with that.  No license, illegal turn and hit and run is not an accident.

it's really sad.  he was one of those guys everyone liked.  i only met him a few times at big family gatherings and he always smiled and played with the kids.  i wasn't surprised when they moved to NY because Tamar (his sister) ice skates competitively and there isn't much of that in Israel, plus Ronan was already living in NY after college.. he had only been there less than a year when we left and i never got the chance to spend much time with him.

he was very active in raising money for disabled children's charities.   it is crazy how many things he was involved in.

such a loss.

I am still fuming about this.  I feel so bad for his family.

He was one of the brightest stars, and the idiot who killed him was slightly more than pondscum.  If he had lived, there is little doubt he would have made the lives of so many people better -- he was only 27 and was already winning recognition for the charity work he was doing.  Giving his time and life to people, only to be mowed down by someone who won't do as much good in their whole life as he would do in a month.

Ugh this stuff makes me livid!

I dont know the facts of this accident, but hearing about someone dying like this makes me think of all the "close-calls" I have with idiot drivers not obeying the law or not being aware. Who do we talk to to make people more aware and to make laws that can reduce risk.

We need to stop letting young people drive these big cars, both engine and body, with so little experience.  I cant believe that we give driver's license away to people so easily in this country.  In other countries, the course is much more involved, and the qulaifications and test are more strict.  I know this may never change, but what can we do?

That has nothing to do with it, the driver here had no driver license.

As far as what can we do? besides requiring cars to only turn on when a licensed driver is in the seat, and requiring annual driver testing and making it a death-penalty case, there isn't much deterrence.  So she gets fined a few hundred dollars for making an illegal turn, and failure to maintain a safe lookout.  Ronan is dead.

I can't explain the irony of his death, especially right after Yom Kippur, but it is so full of sad irony.

Well I had mentioned I don't know the facts of what happened exactly, so my statements were more generalized about how I feel about inexperienced drivers and how I feel the license-giving bodies are too lenient with requirements.  Further, the fact that she had no license just goes to show you that she even lacked that experience, however minimal, required by the state of NY.

What you go on to say, I agree with totally, I just don't know how technologically feasible having a car turn on only with a licensed driver is.  Further, when the requirements to drive a car are so minimal, I dont think that the license is a strong enough weapon.  Does anyone know of any organizations that deal with motor-vehicle laws in NY or, even more specifically, deal with motorcycle awareness.  I am so unifmormed about anything in this field, that I don't even know where to begin.

Its sad that she will probably get away with this with just a slap on the wrists.

looks like it was a red Monster.

prayers to his family, as well as the woman arrested in his death.

REALLY?!?!?!?!  I am NOT sending any prayers her way.  MAKETHEBEASTWITHTWOBACKS HER.  I hope they give her the chair.

Grrrly

when I wrote that none of the facts were public.  I didn't know that she had stopped and got out of her vehicle, saw him laying on the ground then jumped in and took off.

Regardless, two families will be affected by her stupid decisions, and the world is worst off loosing such a beautiful person in Ronen's death.  I sincerely doubt she woke up that morning thinking, "I'm going to go kill someone today".
