As the heading says, I'm pretty sure they was trying to scam money out of me and/or have some control of my computer.

This mob sounded like official Microsoft Tech, telling me to have a look at the errors that come up in my Windows logs as scrolling through this takes quite some time they told me that I had 123 errors and 112 warnings that are slowing down my computer, I thought, how do they know that if they are trying to get into my computer.

Anyway, they asked to type in www.logmein123.com so as I was on a google page when I was typing this in you get this drop down page with suggested sites and low and behold up came logmein123 scam, it made me more suspicious, when they kept asking for money to cover software and hardware I decided to just hang up.

I had a look at the scam page and they talked about how they try to scam you and a couple of you-tube clips of the scammers at work and also who to report this to if it happens to you the address www.digitaltoast.co.uk/supportonclick-systemrecure-scam

That's not good Mmick.
How did they manage to get you on the phone and infront of your computer telling you that you had problems.

Yeah it's a scam: http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/792165

They also say they are from Telstra, Optus, etc and try and fool you into paying them cash to fix a problem that either doesn't exist or that they create.

I just tell telemarketers/scammers that  I am going to get my wallet and to hang on a minute. Then I leave 'em sitting on hold for about 15 minutes till they hang up. Works for most people that call. Works for pesky relatives as well.

Matty, I think it was coincidence that it happened that way.
I thought that if it is happening to me then there is a good chance that its happening elsewhere, so this was the first place to post up, kinda like looking after your mates first kinda thing.
Yep, gunna go to scamwatch and let them know, anyway, just giving people the heads up on another scam.

Mick,
Thanks for the heads up on this mate.
Had a call from my old man last night (about two hours after I read this) telling me he'd just done "something really silly".

They'd given him a call and advised him to use teamviewer, or some other legitimate remote control software..
A couple of minutes in to it he realised it was a scam (the guy mentioned that a charge would show up on his credit card bill or something), so old man shut the machine down whilst the scam guy was in the middle of doing something nefarious.

So... I've had him get in contact with his bank and get all his codes changed... He'll use his netbook for a couple of days until I can get around there to check the damage. Will be interesting to see just how bad it is.

Hi. I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such self-help tapes as “Smoke Yourself Thin” and “Get Some Confidence, Stupid!”
NYTimes: "...highlights of his global tour include encounters with Nelson Mandela, an 800-year-old demigod and a dildo collector."

Struth Wells,
I hope that the bastards got nothing, has your dad reported it to scamwatch, it took only a few minutes to do this, I thought this was worthwhile.

Good idea to let family know as well.
