#4 is a good compromise if you're worried about 00 buck, etc. I know several folks who like #4 for home defense in their scatterguns.
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Ah, that sucks, i was going to test it out this winter on some pumpkins but 10 feet is no fun.  Back to home defense, I keep #4 Buckshot in my mossbergs but im not sure about the sheetrock penetration with #4

unless you have some weird real estate, 10-20 feet is going to be the maximum indoor range you need to worry about.  rock salt will barely wound someone at 10 ' but you can imagine it will scare the shit out of them.  also, there is practically >>no<< recoil from it since it weighs nothing.

i wouldn't discount it completely, but i would not rely on it.

bird shot is good too at short range.  at 20 ft with cyl choke, it isn't going to spread more than 6-8 inches.  imagine being hit with about 40 bbs flying at 900 fps.

fixing bb sized holes in sheet rock is easy.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Clint Smith (who runs Thunder Ranch) had a neat sheetrock penetration display at the Mountain Home, TX location. He used it in the classroom part of his courses. It was two pieces of 1/2" sheetrock fixed in a "V" imitating the corner of a room. It was on casters and could be rolled around. Several rounds (pistol, rifle and shotgun) in different calibers/shot size were fired from varying distances with each penetration marked and identified as to caliber and distance fired. Damn near everything went through both "walls". Some to much greater effect than others. It was an eye opener for sure. In his normal, matter of fact manner of speech he said if you're worried about spent rounds going through the walls just make sure you hit the guy you're shooting at! ;D

J&G has police trade-in 870 shotguns for cheap

http://www.jgsales.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=870+35

Express model takes magnum shells -- $279 for "vg plus" condition.

None are new, but all of the police armory guns I've seen in my lifetime were excellent mechanically.

Ask me about the Austrian police Glock I picked up ages ago -- clockwork.

Looking for a decent AR15 at a reasonable price. Saw some at the local gun show yesterday but couldn't find anything below $825. One of the Academy stores here has these Bushmaster ORC carbines (MSRP $1,120) for only $699. Anyone got any better deals out there than that?

Also, I discovered a small amount of rust on my 1911's slide.

It got a quick wipe down last time I cleaned it and its been sitting out in the open on my dressor for probably 6 months at least.

This is not a high dollar gun so its not breaking my heart but id still like some tips on how to clean it up and keep this from happening again.

The gun is just pissed off at you for leaving it on the dresser instead of taking it to the range.  :D

Light coat of CLP or other gun oil will keep that from happenig, but if it sits out you need to reapply some on occasion.

I know. I haven't been to the range in months.

Im getting back into it. I ordered some bullets and plan to buy more primers and powder tomorrow so I can load up some more.

I've had a gunsmith I trust recommend birchwood casey synthetic gun oil.

Any fhe with that?

0000 steel wool is very good at taking light surface rust off and not hurting the bluing or parkerizing. Won't do anything with deep pitting though. Just be gentle with it and follow with a good coating of Rem oil or anything that prohibits rust. It happens to the best of us. [thumbsup] Just have to stay vigilant. Rust never sleeps. ;D

One thing that works good for firearm exteriors for rust and fingerprint protection is Birchwood Casey Gunstock Wax.  Its basically car wax for your gun.  I use it on my nicer rifles and shotguns, it works well and provides longer protection against surface rust than regular gun oil.

For a general purpose gun cleaner/light preservative do a google search for "Eds Red"  it is a gun cleaner you mix yourself from hardware store chemicals.  It works excellent and is super cheap.  You probably have most of the components already in your garage.  I mix it by the quart and it works better than any commercial standard gun cleaner I have used.
