If we are gonna be getting *big* numbers, maybe we should just consider eating at Oberon instead.

Beginning of the route sorta like this: http://bit.ly/9vEUkQ [Testa friendly and pretty straight forward once you get past Richmond]

Ettamogah Pub Caltex.       0km
regroup causeway @ Bell
Mt Victoria Caltex.             ~100kms
regroup carpark on the other side of the Cave (Vroom! Vroom!)
Oberon Main Street. (fuel, cafes, junk food, bakeries, etc). ~100kms

Return route via ???  (Maybe Duckmaloi road) back to wherever (past lake lyall? I dunno. I  miss ferries and people get dirty :-[)

I know this bit. No, really!

This all sounds good to me, Happy to show the detour again if needed.

Seems to have us back meeting at Rouse Hill, is this correct? If this involves a detour of Richmond we need to make sure we get the meeting place right. S'pose it would make the meeting time a tad earlier too.

So is it an 8:30 for 9:00 depart at Rouse Hill Caltex/McDoobies/Ettamawhatsy Pub?

... and a few other housekeeping things ...

Please make sure you have the phone number of a few other people on the list ... handy for late-running, plan changes (eg weather), or (heaven forbid) if someone gets lost.

Also I hope you have all given some thought to which 'group' you are likely to ride in ... and as Matty suggested don't be too modest.

All fantastic points Betty.

Speaking to J5 on Saturday regrading lunch, the thought is that it might be best to eat in Oberon.
There will be more options for lunch, as we have what looks like the largest group ever eating together might well prove difficult. In Oberon we can split up, fuel up have lunch and reconvene for the return at an agreeable time.

This might well take to the stress out of finding a single place to feed us all.

And yes when it comes to "groups" not everyone can ride in the slow-er group.
We have all ridden with each other enough to know peoples pace and comfort level, that said none of us are crazy mo-f's
when it comes to riding, you might think those up front ride very fast but you might also be surprised at how moderate the pace really is.

Roaduser

good idea! can someone with a good knowledge of the locations please post or pm me their number for a contact on the day? ill be coming from Caringbah on the day so it will be a fair trek into unknown suburbs to reach the starting mark. id hate to get lost before the official start.  [thumbsup]

safe to assume that the stops can be used to switch pace if we feel the urge or need!?! being an unknown and all, dibs starting in the slow group please.

and lastly, how good is the majority of the groups fuel milage? ive been getting as low as 160kms a tank with spirited riding lately :o

Hopefully one of the guys from down south will organise a local place to meet up and guide the way.

Am I correct in remembering you ride an 800? If so (@ 160km a tank) you are likely to be in the lead group. But don't worry about economy too much the 4 valvers will be filling up by then.

In the interests of starting to get people thinking about groups, here's my take on where people who I have ridden with typically find themselves... Don't get all upset if I've put you in the wrong spot - just reply with appropriate changes.. There's a whole list down the bottom that I have not categorised, either becasue I've not ridden with you (or perhaps only once) or (in the case of Dez) perhaps you're looking after a newer rider.. Either way, please place yourselves in a group - if you're not sure, then take the slower of two options...

As a veteran of many group rides here, I'd like to point out a few other things:
- Make sure you're bike and you are prepared - check tyres, indicators, brake lights etc before the ride. Make sure you're fillled up and ready to go on time.
- Ride your ride, at a pace your comfortable with. If your feeling that you're holding the person behind up, wave them on at a safe place. This is one of the reasons we want to grade people's comfortable pace - it makes it safer for all.
- We wait for everyone at major turns. Don't sweat it if you're a way behind the rider in front. We will wait.
- At stops, get things done like toilet stops, refueling, checking tyres etc before socialising - it makes for a quicker stop and less frustration by all.
- Make no mistake, a group ride of around 30 people is much slower than a group of 4 or 6. It's going to be a long and hopefully enjoyable day, so starting out with that in mind should hopefully lead to less frustration.

We encourage riding "The Pace", where it's not about top speed and the like, but rather skill and correct street cornering techniques, such as late apexing.
