All I know is that I have dumped a lot of shit through my 9mm Glocks over the years and can't even remember a jam or stove pipe. That's Norinco, Blazer, Euro surplus corrosive shit, Fed, Win, Rem, Cor-Bon and maybe a big double handful of my brother's re-loads. Anything can happen to anyone at any time no matter what it is you are doing. That's a fact. Doo doo happens. Even though I am a dyed in the wool 1911 .45acp kind of guy I still have plenty of faith in grabbing my Glock in time of need or just screwing around at the range.

... now watch the SOB explode on me next time I fire it! [laugh]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

My Remington 597, in .17 HMR, went Kaboom on me a couple years ago.

I was shooting with my 6 year old son, he handed me the rifle after emptying a magazine.  I loaded a fresh mag.  The second shot exploded driving the magazine down onto my palm and blew the bolt off.......I never found the bolt.

Shortly thereafter the rifles were recalled for similar malfuntions.

Anyone see the report on the Remington 700 series regarding the rifle firing by touching the safety?

Been a problem since the first ones.  There was/is a fix too, but Remmington has never implemented it.  Lawsuit-ville time cause there have been deaths and serious injuries from it.

Never seen that and I have been shooting them since
The early 80's. Easy fix though. No reason to carry a bolt gun on safe, just do a bolt over ride.

I also have similar Rem 700 issues. I have a Rem 700 PSS in .223. I loaned it to my brother last year and he and his boys went to our family cabin near Cimarron, NM to go shooting at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM. My brother said the boys were complaining about how light the trigger was and how it would seem to go off by just thinking about it. My stupid brother didn't check it out and just blew off the boys comments.

I asked to get it back and before he returned it my brother checked it out to make sure it was cleaned and safe. He told me how he discovered that the boys were right and the trigger seemed to be set at one ounce and the firing pin would fall by just working the safety or the bolt! Huh?? WTF?? It never ever did that the whole time I have owned it!

I got it back and no shit it was all true! You could breath on the trigger and it would snap. Working the safety to retract the bolt it would snap! Hell working the bolt into or out of battery would also make it snap! I can't believe his kids didn't have an AD just unloading/loading the gun. Holy shit! Couldn't get it into the hands of my gunsmith fast enough. He told me all about the Rem 700 horror stories and I had no idea. It's been going on for decades and obviously Remington has kept it quiet. A google search told me all I needed to know. Ugh... [bang]

It seems to be fine now but I will never loan it out again to family or friends. And I will always be extra careful every time I handle or shoot it. Scary shit!

Push the bullets down in the mag and run the bolt forward

Running the bolt forward or retracting it would set off the sear and it would snap. Rounds in the chamber or not... the gun didn't care. Of course I would never try it with a round chambered anyway. I watched the gunsmith go throught the same drills in front of me with a couple of gun shop customers and it did it every time. Even working the safety snapped the sear. Again, I can now see where all the damn lawsuits against Remington are coming from. Why the hell these problems have existed for decades is beyond me. Stupid shit and scary shit. :o

OK...you could also insert the mag with the bolt closed I suppose.

but the general public doesn't know that there are issues with the rifle, and remington has kept it quiet since before the gun went into production.

They had an interview with the designer of the rifle that figured out that poor manufacturing tolerances could cause issues and re-designed it. Remington said no because of cost considerations. At the time it was 5 cents per unit.

I forget how many people have died because of AD's
