Just curious, but are you looking at Big D stuff to the exclusion of other brands?

Only because there are some pretty good deals on their kit right now.  Ultimately I would probably go with either Dainese or Knox.

Both good brands, no doubt. Have you thought about T-Pro/Forcefield? Spidey has done quite a bit of... ahem... "field research"... and seems quite pleased with them. I'll probably be picking up one of their "Sub-4" protectors later this spring as the bike gets closer to rideable.

Ben, I've got a Forcefield level 1 separate as well you can try. The Dianse one is the vest sort with chest plates, the Forcefield is just the back w/ shoulder and waist belt
