I didn't feel like being super cryptic about the story line so if you haven't seen it and plan on doing so, hit your back button :).

Anyone else seen it yet?  I'd been looking forward to it for a few months (since 127 Hours) and ended up supremely disappointed and rather confused.  It may be one of those movies like The Big Lebowski where I had to watch it 2-3 times before I didn't really hate it, but I was so confused by the end that it really bugged me.  It wasn't that I didn't understand the plot or what was happening, per se, but what was wrong with her.  Drugs?  OCD (the scratching)?  Maybe she was schizophrenic?  Maybe mommy was a drinker when she was in the womb?  It was just kind of.......ambiguous maybe?

The acting was spot on.  Amazing, really, as was a lot of the cinematography.  I really enjoyed all the muted darks and lights without being 100% in black and white.  The music was good (what little there was, which I like) and to the untrained eye (I play hockey and hit things) the dancing was beautiful, but her dying at the end was just the baffle cherry on top of a weird ass confusing sundae.

Then again, I generally dislike movies that are nominated for or win Oscars.  Curious Case of Benjamin Button?  Booooring.  Doubt:  worse.  I didn't even finish Brokeback Mountain I was so uninterested.  That may be the reason behind my dislike/confusion. I don't know.

Discuss??

Suprised my wife hasn't forced me to go see it with her yet. :P But I think she knows better after her run of weird/depressing flicks that she's drug me to. Now the rule is either I actually want to see the movie too or she has to go see the Expendables (or at least some movie with aliens and/or explosions!) first. [thumbsup]

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

I cant believe nobody talked about the best part. I downloaded it the other day and ffwd right to the good part. Milan Kunis is so hot in that movie.

The best part was when she comes up and wipes her mouth.

The last WTF movie I endured was Jacob's Ladder....

what a piece of shit tale that needed not to be told

at the end it make the beast with two backsing turns out he was having a bigger hallucination right before he dies.....

straight plot-twist rip-off of Occurrence at Owl Creek by Ambrose Bierce

make the beast with two backs the swan flick...already told the wife she can see it with her gf's

I thrive on information not plot contrivances that load the viewer up with guesswork and speculation

Portman's char is nuts.  Half what she sees is hallucination. That's all it is.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

i liked it... but i'm a "chick" so... carry on  [popcorn]

Aronofsky does an excellent job of combining phantasmagoric imagery and excellent acting to really tell the story of characters who are either bat shit crazy or strung out and ready to do anything. "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream" were of a similar vein. I like his work, but then I know what to expect when I go into it. He's also gotten good at toning it down a bit to tell an everyman story like in "The Wrestler".

. Hell, if I'd never masturbated until past age 25 I would probably have stabbed a few people.

Loved the film, definitely wouldn't call it a chick flick by any means but then, I have a serious crush on Natalie Portman, also have no idea why anyone found it confusing or crazy or mind blowing? Seemed fairly simple to understand. I'd go so far as to say what I took away from the film was a metaphor for the maddening effect that the internal struggle between innate good and evil that all humans face, amplified by being forced into a specific mold.
but I'm profound and shit.
or end point, suppress a girls sexuality enough and she'll be forced to stab herself. Hell, if I'd never masturbated until past age 25 I would probably have stabbed a few people.

I think that was my whole beef with it.  Sure you can take away what you wanted (i.e. internal struggle, or whatever the hell you just said :)) but in the end it was a really flowery, visual way of telling a simple story.  I went in thinking there was supposed to be some serious make the beast with two backsin mystery behind the whole thing when in actuality it was just some crazy lady with pointy toes running around being crazy.  Meh.  I'm simple when it comes to movies.  Shit blows up or makes me giggle like a school girl and I'm sold.  Also, boobs work.
