I don't know about yah'all but the cost of daycare around here is outrageous. If my fiancé were to go back to work, she would have to be making a pretty penny to even make it worth while. I think she will try to stay at home with the kid as long as possible.

7 more weeks and my fiancé will be full term.... [bacon] [bacon]

Daycare here ranges from $1,500-$2,000/month for 5 days/wk. On top of that there is a 9-18 month waiting list depending on the daycare. Ugh. We were on the list for 4 locations, and got into 1. As luck would have it, it was the expensive one.  :P Great place though, so all is good.

On the upside...I'm no longer worried about saving for college. If we can afford daycare, we can afford college!  [laugh]

We are on our 3rd aupair.  Costs $13-14k per year for three kiddos.  45 hours per week.  Its a beautiful, beautiful program.

We considered an aupair. I like daycare and the idea that he hangs out and learns with other kids all day though. If he had a sibling we'd probably go the aupair route, but he's an only child. Maybe when he gets older and is in school, so gets his interaction there.

I hear ya.  My wife and I werent impressed with the day care centers around here that we could afford....think Lord of the Flies on Red Bull.  See if you can do a random drop-in to observe before you sign up.

Good Luck!   [thumbsup]

His daycare is awesome...he's been there almost a year. Lots of fun activities, learning exercises, and even a music class.  [thumbsup]

We're going to start looking now then. Thanks for heads up!  The s/o has leave for awhile and then my mom will be here for winter months so that will work out well. By the following summer, we'll be moving again. That move will be thought out in advance with daycare/schooling in mind.

If we'd had the room for an au pair we would have gotten one.

Instead we've spent some money on day care and nannies.

Specifically, about a Desmosedici's worth of money. :'(
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Never thought about this but it sounds great!  I've been looking into it tonight.  The s/o has already nixed it. She gives me some excuses and then the lame bullsh*t.."she better be ugly!!"  [roll]

I would like to explore this option more though.  At least for 6 mo-1 year if we found the right au pair.

^I think the s/o is trying to shoot this one down.   She knows I like redheads and when I mentioned something about getting an aupair from Ireland so we can make some connections.  Well, it hasn't been mentioned again.  [roll]

Anyway, what has happened when I was shopping at Babies-R-Us instead of at my friend's Super Bowl party?!   [cheeky]  There's so much stuff at that store..it's crazy!  It's been fun though.  I don't even thnk about the ridiculous prices for some of that stuff.  When the s/o picks something up and I just say "put it in the cart honey!"  We got off pretty good though today.  Some woman who was shopping there gave us a coupon that expired today so we got a great deal on Chicco stroller.  Now, my thoughts are on how I can mod this thing!!  [evil]  Unfortunately, the s/o didn't let me get that black/grey one so mods will be a bit tricky on this one.

Bought one of these too..
