Why trouble with the bolt?  That scope is about the same size as what's on there.

I've never worked another bolt action gun in person, but on this one you just keep the trigger pulled as you open the bolt and pull it back.  It slides straight out the back of the gun.

Mines removes the same way. It's a rifle made by Marlin.

On mine the handle wouldn't clear the bell when it was raised up.

What model marlin?  Mines a Glenfield model 20 made for sears back in the day.

I'll take measurements before I buy anything. . .

I was just googling that model 103 (pretty close to mine btw) and what do I find?

That's nuts...I like it. [laugh]

I bought this 22 because it was just like the very first rifle I ever fired.

It works great for it's intended purpose and was cheap.

Yep, it's one step up from putting a round in a pipe and setting it off with a rock [laugh]

Anyone own or have experience with hi-point carbines in .45acp or 9mm?

I almost bought one in 9mm at a gun show yesterday.

Nope. But they have been around a while so I would assume if they ever had quality/function problems they would have been worked out by now. Can't remember how long they've been in my cranium data base but it's been a good while. And I don't notice their spare magazines for sale in catalogs but then again I'm not looking for them. Not much help... situation pretty much normal. ;D

OK, I just looked in my latest Cheaper Than Dirt mega catalog that arrived a couple of days ago and in the magazine section it only listed Hi-Point mags in .380, .40S&W and .45ACP. And those were 9 and 10 rnd capacity. I'm betting those are pistol mags that also fit the carbines. CTD did not list any 9mm magazines... weird. Hi-Point's website show the capacity for the 9mm carbine as 10 rnds. No indication that anyone makes higher cap mags for the carbines.

Yeah I think 10 rounds is all they make.

Looks like it could be fun.

SPG has higher capacity mags (15 I think) and ATI makes a repl stock for them.  They are fun.  Nothing you'd get excellent accuracy but the action is surprisingly robust for pot metal.  I bought one years ago but sold it to a friend.  I wanted a pistol cal carbine but wanted more capacity.

If you like the pistol cal carbines check out the Ruger PC9 and 40 rifles.  They use the ruger pistol mags so are easier to equip.

Just picked up a Remington 742 Woodsmaster in .308.  The guy bought it new in 1974 and it has less than 50 rounds though it.  Has a "Mauser" 3-9x40 scope......anyone know about  Mauser scopes?

Looking forward to giving it a shot!

I'm also interested in scopes.  Debating a long rifle to round out my firearms and I'm a bit stumped.  I probably won't do any hunting with it and, unless I find a place other than the range, I'll likely only take it out about 10 times a year.

Any suggestions?  Strongly leaning towards a Remington 700 in .308 but I can be persuaded.
