I admit, I'm a sucker for a cool gadget.  Some simple device that solves an annoying problem will always get me to spend money.

I recently read about this little doo-hicky in Motorcycle Consumer News, which if you don't subscribe to, you should.  Review was good, I checked out the online store and ordered it Sunday night.  It arrived today (thursday) via regular mail.

We all ride, or at least backpack, and presumably we all eat.  Some of us ride to eat, or eat to ride, or ride then eat, or whatever.  The problem is, where do you put your gear?  You could of course pile it up on the floor.  Eww.  Take over a nearby table.  Not always appreciated by the proprietor.  Pile it up on the table.  Eww again. 

The Moto-Hanger solves this problem.  It's a small disc made of recycled metal, with an articulated hook.  A small magnet holds it together when it's folded up.  It also came with a little velvet-ish bag to carry it which I likely will not be using.  The top is a domed gel button type thing, decoration only, and has the vendor's logo. 


You tug on the hook end a little bit and it unfolds.  The post that connects it to the disc also pulls out if you need more clearance over a table edge.


The bottom of it has a rubber no slip foot that rests on the table.


Bottom line:  It works.


I hung my helmet for about 10 minutes and it didn't go anywhere.  I can't imagine it moving or falling off unless someone strongly bumped it.  You can also run the whole chain through your D-ring and use the hook to hang it off something (backpack? coat hanger? cubicle wall?)  No more hogging up table or counter space.  No more worrying about the cute waitress knocking your helmet off the table when she's handing you a short stack with sausage.  Not sure if it would work on any other horizontal edge or a tall-sided bar, but it worked on my wet bar.

For less than $20 shipped and small enough to carry even on a long trip, it's one of those ingenious items that made me sit back and say "why didn't I think of that?"

You realize the exact thing has been used for years to hold ladies purses in the same manner? haha.... My wife bought one at a local boutique, and I bought a plain black one for my helmet for $1.

Yup, I was beaten to it, but I looked at the photo and said 'huh, That's a purse hanger' And was all ready to give you shit..

i'm not seeing how the thing holds up at all, where is the bottom part that is the leverage point?

the arm is locked and can only bend one way. THe line of action is straight down the middle so it doenst fall.

i originally saw the idea with purses. 

its cool but it makes its own problem. WHere the hell do you put your feet? i just put my jacket behind my chair. or if theres a bunch of us, we hijack a chair and pile 4-5 jackets onto pof each other.

As noted, it pulls straight down. But if you have an unbalanced enough load pointed with the heavy side out from the table, they can flip up and fall. But it takes a shocking amount of force.

  HaHa!     Sorry Privateer, these replies are funny , my wife recently bought a similar thing for $5 for her purse.  I thought that was a purse thingy... the instant I saw your thread.

I think that's why the helmet one has the non-slip bottom whereas a regular purse hangar doesn't need the non-slip because the load isn't as high.

yeah yeah everyone's a wise guy.  Soon as it showed up at home my wife said "I've seen those for purses."

I don't care.  it's a cool thing, it works.  I guess I missed the thread where someone else posted up about finding one for cheap and using it for their helmet.

You could run the hook and links all the way through the d-ring, then use the hook over the back of a chair I suppose.  I did that last night at the bikini bar and the hot bartender thought it was pretty cool.
