I wanted to get a belly pan for my Monster 1000ie. Is there anyone in Oz that makes them or is it something I need to source from overseas? Has anyone here got one on there bike? I wanted a fibreglass one as I am not into CF. One like this preferably-

Also I have been searching for some red spark plug leads but no one seems to make them for DS engines. Are there any out there?

Thanks for any help guys.

Got my bellypan from a place in Italy prob 18 months ago!!

It came in raw fibreglass and was rough as guts, took a bit of work in prep before it was ready for paint but came up nice!! [thumbsup]

It cost about $85 Oz for the pand but around $90 Oz for the post!!  :o >:(

Wont be buying from Europe again, postage makes it probitive.  [roll]

Didnt find much locally at that stage!! Maybe more options now??

Mine looks just like the one in the photo! ;D

other than aesthetics (that is looks...going to get in trouble for that one hehe) is there any advantage to a belly pan? Less road grime? Better cooling?  ???

@ MR.S2R- I like the look personally. I have no idea if they do anything aerodynamic for your bike but I know that the purpose of racing belly pans are required so that if your bike develops an oil issue mid race it is supposed to prevent oil from getting on the track.

And Two Dogs, cheers, just what I was looking for  [thumbsup]
Do they sell Ducati red in rattle cans?

Anyone know where to get coloured (pref red) spark plug leads for a DS engine now lol?

Roaduser

i made up some red msd leads for my 800 from spares i had for my car. id say you could do the same. while i havent looked id guess the plug boots would be same or similar to some of the overhead cam car engines and could be sourced from rocket industries. parts list of the basic boots here http://www.msdignition.com/info.aspx?taxid=10&taxid2=70

not sure on length but these boots look similar http://www.msdignition.com/Products/Spark_Plug_Wires/Custom_Fit_Wire_Sets/Honda/32369_-_Super_Conductor_Spark_Plug_Wire_Set,_Honda_Accord_2_2L_4Cyl__90-_97.aspx

I have had rattle can spray mixed and matched through an auto shop at Narrabeen
it was pricey $30 a can but the colour was almost perfect.
Unfortunately they have closed down but I am sure with some searching you could find
another.
I helped a friend by re glassing his 848 fairing that had been binned on the track and I used a
red spray from the hardware store Dulux I think , you could see in the right light a difference
but as it was a race fairing and was due to be binned again soon so he didn't care.

As the belly pan is a distance from the tank I think you could get away with it.
Just remember lots of light coats with at least half hour between and you should get a good finnish.

That photo was exactly the bike that inspired me to want a belly pan on my S2R1000 I love that bike [thumbsup]

Instead  [evil]  I pinched the CF one that was on my wife's 695 ....... Oh how I have payed for that [laugh]
That pan will not contain an oil spill as it is open at the bottom but what it does do is stops a bit of road rash from
stones flung up from the front wheel, helps direct more air at the engine......oh and IMO looks good.
post up your DIY pics when done [thumbsup]

+1 there - I am considering one myself. I am more of a person that looks at bling for both looks and performance.... [laugh]

I am sure I read somewhere amongst these threads that someone alleged better cooling for the lower cylinder....

I think they look great

Hi Twisty

Check out this thread i put up last year http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=34395.15.

I picked up this cf belly pan of flee bay from carbon dude he occasionally put up items with a low start bid i won it for $80 plus post bargain.
Some people have had some crap of him and bag his stuff, the belly pan was good.
And other items i have seen from him ,other DMF'S have are ok .
It's Chinese cf and for some thing like a belly will do the job and you can still paint it red a lot of auto shops Will mix rattle can paint to suit these days.
Or you might get a close match from a pre mix?

Most belly pans don't come with mounting brackets monsterparts did sell them send him an email.

I fabricated my own 4 pieces of stainless steel 12mm wide ,47mm long ,1mm thick with two holes 6mm @35mm centres.
plus s/s washers ,spacers and 6mm nuts .a pain the arse to fit up neat. :P

I had two dogs bike to copy from made it easier. :-*

Haven't noticed any cooling difference but i think they tidy up the bottom of the bike [thumbsup]

Nothing like a tidy bottom [evil]

Thanks for all the help guys. Today I managed to spray my dirty grey, stained timing belt covers and sprocket cover with some VHT plastic bumper paint so they now look like the ones in the pic. Also did the clear screen. Looks a lot better.
