I've been wanting a new pair of gloves for a while, my gloves hurt after a few hours and they are so freaking hard to get into.

I've been looking at the Spidi Scorpio, looks like its very comfy and well built, but it doenst go easy on the eye with that silver titanium front of hand. Cheap through New Enough

The Technik helliion looks sick, but it doenst look as comfoy as the spidi (nothing really look comfy as the spidi after STG's video review)

Any other suggestions? im trying to stay in the under $80 price range, only looking for short gloves/mx style gloves since this is going to be a commuter glove.

Just a random question (not trying to be an ass, I swear) what does commuting have to do with short gloves?   The only reason I am curious is because for about a year an a half I only used shorty gloves.  I thought they were great, but that is because I hadn't found a pair of gauntlets that I liked. Now I dont think I would go back.  It seems safer to go over the jacket sleave so it wont ride up.

Those sidi's look nice though.  I had some Joe Rocket's that where OK  http://www.newenough.com/browse/view_product_images/772[/url]

My last pair of shorties were some A*s that were absolute garbage.  http://www.newenough.com/gloves/street_short_cuff/alpinestars/smx2_air_carbon_motorcycle_gloves.html   DO NOT BUY THESE GLOVES   A buddy of mine was borrowing them from me and took a spill at 10mph and the gloves split like paper.

sorry i couldnt be of more help

Well, its tough to recommend many gloves that are in that price range, I had a pair of rockets that were a little more then that and they fell apart in under 2 seasons.

I make a living with my hands so I spent a little more on gloves. http://www.heldusa.com/akira.htm

kevlar and roo leather FTW!

but I have to agree, regardless of price a gauntlet is going to give you alot more protection and that I think is really important for your hands and wrists.

Just bought these and should have them by Friday, Alpinestars SP-X. They're a hybrid between a short glove & gauntlet. I bought them as summer gloves; they're supposed to flow a ton of air but offer good protection.

During my commute, i usually dont go past 30mph, hell my averege speed is less than 18mph. though i do do sprints that are about 70-80mph for less than 5 seconds. To me its a risk vs comfort factor. I'm not looking to do hard riding, im just looking to get from point a to point b without being stuck in the train or car. ( i live in nyc ). Ive fallen of my bike with MX style shorty gloves and well. it sucked becasue a few rocks came up and bit my wrist. Im all for gauntlet, but for the 1 hour i ride to and from work/school, it isnt worth it. Not when its 95 outside, your sitting in traffic (another 20degrees bumped up) and your baking in gloves that arent comfortable (guantlets sacrafice comfort for more safety, great for hard riding, or track use, but not worth it imho for urban comuting), the risk is worth it.

now to everything else. I currently have a joe rocket glove. Its terrible. fell apart in 2 riding seasons. Its caused rough spots in my hand and after evey ride my hand is back from the pigment of the leather. I might just end up going wit hthe spidis they dont look as nice, but they sure look comfortable, which is my main focus.

I love the looks of he Icon Pursuit glove. looks sexy, but damn, it offers barely any protection. which SUCKS cause it looks like its one comfy glove too.

ive got icons which fit me very well and very comfortable,
bought those alpinestars for the new bike , in red of course...
that carbon knuckle guard across the back of the hand is stiff as a board
and doesnt allow my hands to flex enough while riding
they become uncomfortable after 30 min or so...
and they were undersized as well, went up one size to fit my palm size well,
but still after some time riding they havent stretched enough to ease the fit across that carbon
to relax and become comfortable....
my 2 cents....

i went looking for a pair of shortys to replace my frank thomas air rage(roo leather) gaunlets for commuting, so i picked up a pair of A* smx2 air carbons, i should have just returned them because after one ride they just went up on the shelf and im still using my air rage gloves.

easy on, easy off. go up higher than my old A* mx GLOVES.  they feel sturdy and are comfy to boot.
best part? 60ish bucks.

HM, just wanted to report back on the Alpinestars SP-X I picked up. So far, I really like the gloves. They offer much better protection than my A-stars shorty's and are very well ventilated. What's nice is that they're longer than traditional shorty's but still fit well under the sleeve opening of my riding jacket. They did feel a little snug when I first wore them but after a couple of outing's they are breaking in nicely. Fit is subjective though. I find that once I use a pair of gloves/boots/helmet for a while anything else doesn't feel right at first.

Let us know what you decided on.

Thanks for all the replys, today my joe rocket finanly riped, they lasted only 7000 miles of riding. but they have seen pouring rain more times than i can count, but still, barely 2 riding seasons. sucks.

So, Im searching on sportbike track gear and i found these gloves,

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=1737
Great padding, not much ventilation, but it looks like it could handle some serious punishment.

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=1744
Supermoto gloves, again, great protection (for a short glove atleast) and it looks like there is also some wrist padding, a definite + when looking at a short glove.

and of course the SPX
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=2509

or course, the spidi.
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=3414

Still undecided its killing me!

IIRC, I paid around $60 for my A* SPS gloves... they've held up pretty good over the past 3 years. took a while to break in, but they've been great since. lots of padding for the back of the hand, and kevlar sandwiched btwn the leather layers
