Not the best options available. I would recommend:
Monday 14th Monday night football ANZ Staduin (Olympic Park) - 14th Tigers v Bulldogs, Massive stadium, will not be full so some atmosphere is lost. Out of city, need public transport.
Friday 18th Eels v Panthers, local darby will be a good game, very passionate supporters, public transport too but not really near the city.
Saturday 19th, Tigers v Warriors. Will be a sellout, order tickets now! within 15 min of the City. Without doubt the pick of the options, you can get on the can's and there are heaps of top pubs to go to after the game. Balmain goes off after a Tigers win (which they will  ).
If your fair dinkum about wanting to experience a "Footy game" delay your trip to Melbourne a day.

so, anybody going to the sat game?  i can change my flight out and looking for a place to crash for that one night, since my friends only have the hotel til that morning.

You can get them here http://www.proticket.com.au/event.asp?eventid=978I think you will get an E-Ticket that you can print off and scan when you go through the gates.
To experience it, get General Admin tickets, go to one of the local pubs like this one http://www.orangegrovehotel.com/ in the arvo and follow the crowd down to the stadium before kick off. Get a few drinks there because it can be hard to get a drink when its full.

if you can't count past 6 see a league game, if you like lots of stoppages by refs who think they're bigger stars than the players watch a union game, if on the other hand you want to see overpaid boys in short shorts running around with no idea how to pass a ball go see an aussie rules game.
personally, i wouldn't waste my time or cash on any of em, hire a bike and find a decent road, ride it till the filth pull you over then show them your foreign licence!

Yep done just that tonight, pub was packed (more than 20) and it was good to see all the different football clubs represented,m we had St george, Bulldogs, Tigers, Eagles, Roosters, Rabbits,was all good people hootin and hollerin, oh that was me,  but a good night was had by all, thank goodness footy season has begun.
