After having lunch at Glorious today was confronted with a crash between a motorcycle and car unfortunately the news reports that the rider died.

Gents, be careful out there it only takes one mistake, from you or another road user.

That's a terrible day, do take care. It can take only a very tiny mistake.

just heard on the afternoon news about tough new laws for motorcyclists, I am guessing in QLD.
Just hope it is not in response to accidents, it seems to be the only time Governments pay attention.
Any idea from those Nth of the boarder.

Mt. Glorious is one place to steer clear of at the weekends, psycho boy racer territory, a nice ride but  has a lot of deceptive off camber and tightening radius turns, all well designed to catch out the inexperienced rider.
The new laws around new riders and reduced capacity can't come too soon to QLD (end of the month) as far as I'm concerned.
What else can you do to save people from themselves?

Yeah do agree, more CC's only makes for a bigger mistake for the inexperienced rider.
I have a friend here in NSW who is looking at buying and all he wants is the biggest capacity he can get a learner.
I am a little fearful for him learning the hard way.

...but then again Matty, limiting CC's won't save them from themselves - remember those Aprilia 250's - my lord they sounded vicious and incredibly dangerous!

those British permit tests sound like a step forward - they are pretty steep!

we could have a plan where training has to be taken so that each level you are allowed more advanced (power-to-weight) machines?

Not too long back in Montreal/Canada you could as a learner get on a 1000cc.

It has changed now but I am not sure what the result has been.
But without doubt every summer the first weeks would see multiple deaths.

Less CC's doesn't mean less chance of death, but if your bike won't do 4th gear wheelie's to impress your mates you might have more chance of living longer. And maybe even learning how to ride a bike.

the 250cc limit will look like it works for a year or so cos all those guys who get their license will just wait out the one year capacity limit. then what little training did sink in will have long been forgotten and they'll be on a big bike with still no idea.
the capacity limit will be a dismal failure i think, what would really help would be decent training to begin with, not bike shops buying customers with easy licenses.

Yeah I agree Paul.
2nd time round getting my licence again and 14yrs after I first had it I was very glad to have even the small amount of training we have here.
Way back when with pen & paper I was on the road with not a clue of how to survive.
I'm luck I only had a licence back then to combat the older brother who had a bike and no car. I had no clue what I was doing on the road as a 20 year old.
Let alone 16-17...

tassie gone backwards , once you had to do a stay up right course over four weekends to get your Ls then only aloud a 250 cc then you had  to do an advaced corse to get P plates and another year befor getting full lisence , now they have brought in lams and the course is done in three hours but bike rego has doulbled to try and put young ones off , bloody pollys all they want is more money because every man and his dog are getting bikes to comute on
