has anyone looked at the KTM adventure ?

would be the sensible choice after ducati , ie large Vtwin

a couple of mates have owned them and raved non stop about them , 1 went cape york and back , other only sold his as gone to canda

I have ridden a rather old GS early model and later pre current , both rather weird and not really my cup of tea
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

I haven't looked at them but I have heard that there spares/bling range is eye waveringly expensive even compared to Ducati or BMW.
I think it might be too focused a bike though compared to FS/GS bikes.
And I have to agree also that the GS has become far too big a bike for it's own good.

Hi. I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such self-help tapes as “Smoke Yourself Thin” and “Get Some Confidence, Stupid!”
NYTimes: "...highlights of his global tour include encounters with Nelson Mandela, an 800-year-old demigod and a dildo collector."

The GS bikes are intended as adventure tourers. Let's be clear about the touring bit - designed to cover a shitload of kilometres in comfort. The adventure bit is the terrain discussion - the 1200 GS's are really for fire-trails and not much else. The F650GS and F800GS are "more" enduro than the 1200GS, but are not truly functional dirt bikes. You can get anywhere in the world on a dirt bike, but your body might give up on you before the bike does. The GS's will get you almost anywhere and pretty much in comfort.  The DR650 is a great bike, but perhaps a bit more enduro than the 800GS.
Really just a case of looking at what you want to do with the bike. For touring, camping, 4WD tracks, then the 650GS/800GS are absolutely ideal.

Thats a beautifull example of a beautifull bike. I love the way the headers turn blue. Was that for sale on ebay about a year ago, the owner was in Perth but the bike was in Sydney ?

A friend of mine bought one new, about $3000 at the time and it came with a race kit, 40 tooth rear sprocket, 40mm dellorto's and the conti's. He also had a double seat caus we rode it up to Forster one weekend, about 800k round trip. I remember revving it out in 3rd an hitting 160kph as you hit 4th, with still 5th to go .WOW, Quite something in those days . A memorable ride, well it was the 70's an I still remember it !

thanks rendang..   nah, it wasn't off ebay.
It came in, in a box at work. Came from Darwin complete with wasp nest's in every oriface possible. The idea at the time was to rebuild it and use it as a test/showcase bike for the veetwo product. It was kinda my job to rebuild it when there was a quiet periods in the workshop (took about 2 yrs I think). I didn't rebuild the engine, one of the other guys did that,  but I put new guides and seats in the heads and rebuilt the crank. we sent out the painting and plating, and I pretty much did everyhing else. Had to make a lot of stuff... (yep, I had a good job)
Anyhow veetwo went all pear shaped and they decided to get rid of it. They had a guy lined up to buy it, but when he draged his feet I put my hand up. I was a bit stuned when they took my offer, because I had to come up with the fun tickets!
It lives inside and rarely gets ridden, I have it under historic club rego, cheaper, but you only ride on club rides.
Yeah,in the late seventies a lot of my mates back in Lithgow had Ducati's I had a kwaka z9!
swore... that one day I'll have one of them things!!   ;D

Can't be a threadjack ... he still hasn't said what he did.

For all we know he bought a 70s bevel ... which he may, or may not, have put a BMW badge and knobby tyres on.
