Teknic chicanery denim jeans  - total crap

15mph slide. Tore at seam. Good thing I had knee/shin guards on. I won't be using Teknic ANYTHING else again (just to be safe). Just bought some Teknic leather pants that I'll be returning just because I don't trust the brand now (never used). Pair of levis would have held up better then these 80.00 Tec jeans.

Pic was taken off the road.

I'll be sending them back for a refund.

Joe rocket sonic leather gloves held up great (still good to use) as did alpenstar boots, Helmet never hit the ground and Alpinstar knee guard cracked so I'll replace but I was happy with them, protected my knee good. Not a bruise.

Cause of crash: pile of gravel and me not seeing it, feel like a retard.

Bike is ok, need to fix front master cycl (ASV lever is banged up but held hence the losse of the master cycl, I can Hella coil the stripped bolt on the master and it will be good as new), new mirror, foot peg got wreaked, cracked rear cowl, need to re-align front. Speedymoto slider is about 1/4" worse for wear but the side sliders and fork sliders saved the bike any real damage as far as I can tell. I sprained my foot, 2/3 boots are nice for walking and only med protection. Dove her home lol....

Glad you're pretty much in one piece!

Do you think having the hard armor under the pants increased the stress on the fabric when it hit the road?  ( as opposed to your nice soft knee)  I remember some discussion here before about hard armor in leathers causing more damage to them during impact than soft armor as it deflects underneath the material instead of providing a hard surface on each side of the fabric during impact or sliding.

Obviously the pants should not have failed and its a good thing you had the armor on.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

I honestly think they just have a design flaw, they tore cleanly at the seam. Stiching was not that strong. The under armor had no sharp edges, impact was hard enough to crack the plastic and some of the material rubbed away, I need to take a better pic of the armor. I will be using it again, very happy with it. I am not sure I'd have a working knee cap right now if I had not had it on.

I won't be trusting this brand again, 15mph crash and 10th slide. I expected more out of an 80.00 pair of pants. Thing is ive had friends crash/slide in over the counter jeans that held up better then this.

Just bought a pair of midnight AVG jeans, no seam at the knee and more kavalr reinforcement then the tecs had.

That seems (no pun intended) like a piss poor place for a seam. I'm going to go take a look at the various knee armor options out there, I hate slapping on the leather pantaloons every time I go out for a ride but my knees have taken enough abuse from mountain biking for years. Your experience reinforces that riding in just jeans is a practice I hung up a while ago.
Every time I meet a new group of your friends that understand you and your weird sense of humor I'm a little more amazed that there are other people in the world like you that lived through childhood - My loving girlfriend

The new jeans I bought sound solid and no seams at the knee, more Kavler.

I use the 26.00 alpenstar strap on knee/shin guards, very happy with. Also wear padded (impact foam) under shorts under the jeans. Good combo for around town if the jeans hadnt been total crap.

I've been looking at some under jeans pads and saw the A*s stuff. I've read a lot of complaints of them sliding around since they don't wrap above the knee. Your thoughts?

I'm an athletic build so jeans are always tightish but yes they held in place fully, no knee scrapes even without the jeans holding, this after the tear, a 10-12ft slid with the bike on me.... I'm very happy with them. I was planning on stiching on an extra strap with flelt padding glued to the back for around the knee joint but now I'm not sure it's needed, might do anyway.

First, glad you are ok.

Second, I wouldn't write technic off. Bottom line is you were wearing denim jeans, moto brand or not, denim is not going to save your skin, no matter the brand. Leather is your friend.

I sorta agree (moto jeans are only a small step above reg jeans). However the tec jeans did not wear though they failed at a very badly placed lateral stitching joint. This is reflective of the brands quality IMO. After this happened I did some digging on the goat leather pants (their pants and jackets are goats leather) and found a nasty failer from a high speed slide at the same spot on the leather pants (retail 220.00), the guys knee was worn down to the bone. Ya... Yuck.

Lesson learned: don't cheap out on med quality gear, buy good stuff.

I quote examples like this every time I drop a few bones on good gear and the girlfriend looks at me like I'm an idiot.

glad you're ok and that you were wearing armor under those jeans...

me personally, i dont see the point of making/marketing motorcycle jeans that dont have any protective features such as kevlar lining or armor at all.  to me, that just means you're buying funny looking jeans that wont do crap for you should anything every happen.

that being said, i got a pair of sartso killer jeans and i couldnt be happier... they look like normal jeans, not like the draggin jeans that are basically the dad jeans that no one really wants to be seen wearing.  they have a larger amount of kevlar lining than most brands, and have a pocket for knee armor.  i got the sas tech knee armor kit from draggin jeans to pop into there and it fits perfectly and it's nice and soft so it's comfy too.  i do have some tpro knee armor for when i'm wearing other jeans, but ever since i've gotten these pants, i havent worn any other jean on the bike.  having the armor in the pocket is a lot more comfy than strapped to your leg.

check them out if you're still interested in getting some kind of denim replacement... i cant say how they fair during a slide, but they have some testimonials up on the site... but i always take testimonials with a grain of salt.  they do have one of those being dragged by a bike vids though.

Thanks bro I'll look a them... Just ordered some AGV midnight kevlar jeans, heavy denim and have Kevlar in the hips, has, leg sides and knees. The tecnic had Kevlar in the knees/ass but the seam failed so it was useless. Kavler for slide protection and knee/chin armore and undershort padding for impact.

I  currently a big fan of strap on under armor for knees, shines I feel like it's a better fit most of the time then built in with the exeption of tight leathers (won't move off knee with tight leathers). I have some overpants with built in CE rated knee pads and I took them out and use the strap on because they never quite lined up perfect.

I should note that my Teknic leather (goats) jacket held up, it does IMO look more worse for wear them a heavy grain cow leather jacket would have though.
