Hey guys/gals,

I have a riding jacket that I love very much, but one of the zippers on the sleeve (down near the wrist) no longer zips correctly - up or down - the teeth come apart. Where do you go to get something like that fixed or replaced? Dry Cleaner? Shoe Repair Shop??

Thanks!

We have a local leather shop that I have my stuff fixed/modified, but if it's just adding or repairing a zipper a regular seamstress should be able to fix you up.

That reminds me, I have to have some zippers sewn into my jackets...
Every time I meet a new group of your friends that understand you and your weird sense of humor I'm a little more amazed that there are other people in the world like you that lived through childhood - My loving girlfriend

Thanks. I wasn't really sure what type of 'venue' to seek out for such a repair. I've never had to do that before. I love my jacket, it's a Frank Thomas leather jacket that resembles a bomber, but the one down side to FT products is the quality of zippers.

We went on a ride this weekend and I couldn't get my frigg'n glove off because my jacket sleeve zipper was all jacked up!! Fortunately my sweetie was there to help me out a jam!

There's probably a shop some place near you that specializes in leather. If it's just a zipper, you probably don't need a place that is focused on moto leathers - but leather working is different than normal fabric stitching.

Also ask if they have kevlar or high strength nylon thread.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

That's a great suggestion - thanks!  [thumbsup]

i had my a-stars jacket zipper repaired at a dry cleaners.  works like a dream now.

2 things to check yourself to see if its a DIY fix.
1.  does the zipper end insert into the puller ALL the way in?  if not, that could cause the zipper to pull apart. some crazy glue if the plastic fell apart should hold it.
2.  does the zipper just not slide up and down smoothly and skip teeth?  try rubbing a little wax on the zipper.

The type of thread used would be the main reason for me to look to a leather repair shop instead of a regular tailor.

Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't had time to get it fixed yet, but really want to have it fixed soon since it's my favorite jacket.

I asked around alternation shop to fix my first icon jacket zipper and replace it.  I was quoted about $50 and I have to get the zipper.  Gave up on it as the jacket is now only $99.
I still would like to repair it and hopefully if I get 2-up ride with a lady someday, I can offer it up.
