MotoWheels: I'm DONE with them.

I've been waiting for an exhaust system for my Yello SS from MotoWheels.

Today the delivery attempt was made, but I was not home and it was shipped SIGNATURE REQUIRED IN PERSON.
I called Ed at WotoWheels to see if this can be fixed -I'm never home during the day.
He said "No, it is required by FedEx for packages with an insured value over $500"
I told him I never asked for insurance.  He said it is included and required by FedEx!  [roll]

I called the FedEx manager (terminal is at 287/I-820 north of I-20) and explained the situation.
She said it was shipped signature only, at the request of the shipper.
I said "Maybe because it was insured for over $500 it is required..."
She said "No, it doesn't work like that.  It must be the shippers policy..."

She offered to re-rout the package to the terminal so I could pick it up (for free, -Ed at MotoWheels wanted to charge me $10 for that).
and if I had a problem carrying it on my bike and needed help she said they would do whatever needed to get it to my house!!!

If I wanted to pay a grand to have someone lie to me I would have picked a better looking hooker than Ed.

No sympathy from me in this case  [roll]

If I had 1000$ of parts in a small box, I wouldn't want it left on my doorstep for 8 hours, and I would have been happy motowheels req'd a signature.

I think you will have a hard time finding many other people around here unsatisfied with motowheels.

Maybe you should consider moving somewhere a little nicer.
Where I am, it has never been a problem.

These parts are -relative to most of my shipments- cheap.

Insurance is not the issue -the parts were covered.
Price, not the issue.
Signature is not the issue.
MANDATORY in-person signature is. (FedEx will otherwise allow you to sign a form and they will deliver the next day)
Charging me for a service given for free (terminal pick-up) is an aggravation.

Lying to me is the biggest no-no.

If you want to be lied to, great.
Then don't do business with other honest dealers... Chris Kelly, Lt. Snyder, etc...
They will not lie to you.

My first time in a long time straying from a group of dealers I trust
(and there are many) that I do much business with...

If he had said "Hey that's just the way I do it" that would be one thing...
(I still wouldn't buy from him again -because that doesn't work for me)

But he tried to play me.  I'm no punk kid.

There is no problem where I live with missing items, I think you used your imagination with my post.

I always like a signature req'd, so that if the box never shows up, you and the vendor don't have a blame each other game to play.

In my opinion, to write off a vendor over such small beans, is still just silly.

it sure is frustrating when you clearly do not want the "signature required" level of security, though.  i know this exact thing has pissed me off many times in the past.  not everyone, myself included, can be around when fedex or ups tries to drop a package off during work hours because...well, some of us are, you know, working.  i've had packages sent back after just two attempts...and then i was stuck with additional shipping.  so i feel your frustration dude.

That (to me) is what tracking on the package is for.
If tracking says it's there, and it's not, -either someone made off with it, or it was delivered to the wrong address. 
Either way it is "on" the shipping company or the thief at that point.  Right?

I just meant that I would want to know it arrived, in my hands, so that if I never received it, the vendor xyz couldn't tell me it arrived.

And a lot of people are not lucky enough to live in places that you can leave boxes out.  I do, and it sounds like you do, but I imagine we might not be the norm.

Motowheels covered my broken rearset under warranty which I don't have any warranty papers that say they should so that's good.

But I think someone lied to RichD and that's not right.

I'm not sure if that person at the FED EX call center had it right--or if there is a different set of rules for the end user or for the shipper.

I heard from our FED EX representative that signatures were required on all transaction over $500--on items under $500 it was up to the descretion of the driver because he would have to pay for losses. If we ask for no signature--we are responsible for it if it does not get to the final destination. The insurance that we pay for is VOID- and we must replace the packages out of our pocket. I remember this because I had to put the "signature required" notice in the FAQ section of our website about 6 months ago.

I also know for a fact that FED EX charges us for any change of addresses or re-ships --if we initiate that request. I've had to make the call to the FED EX centers myself when the shipments needed to be changed-and that is what they have told me. I've also seen those charges on our FED EX invoice.

I have not spoke to Ed about this but he is one of the most knowledgable, hardworking and honest guys that I know. He didn't lie to anyone. He is our wholesale manager . He helps our over worked retail guys with the phone.

rich you may have to do what i started doing when the fedex driver wouldn't allow my son to sign for something for me. i have my stuff now delivered to my work and either take it home when i drive my truck to work (if it don't fit in my backpack) or have a guy who lives pretty close to me take it to his house and i just swing by and get it when i get home and get my truck. it sucks especially when your 16 yr old tells you the fedex driver stated "it has to be signed for by chris or tina calhoun. i am sorry young man but that's the policy (which has turned into a running joke at my house)." WHAT!!!  r u kidding me it's not like he's the babysitter or something like that he's my damn son. just give him the package. the ups guy once left a box wrapped around my gate while it was raining because he was afraid of my great dane. this is the same dog that got his butt kicked by the fat cat, bird (green winged macaw) and a bordie collie puppy. and not all at the same time seperate instances. i guess it's just hit or miss with these guys.

This is what I expected the situation to be. My guess is that any international shipping company has a lot of policies in place that are followed by some and ignored by others. I had one DHL driver drive 20 miles out of his way to deliver a package to me before I left town, and another tell me he would get fired if he wasted the companies gas doing that. Did he lie to me? Probably not, he was just not clear on the policy and was told "save gas at all cost."

Talk to motowheels first, if they still can't come up with a good solution/policy/explantion then bring it here.
