Had my second track day yesterday on the S4RS, and had a blast. I am finally getting comfortable throwing this beast into a corner, and actually kept up up with my buddy on a Ninja 636, even passing him in a few corners. I did have a question about the powerband on this bike. The track was Willow springs, it has a great mix of long straights and tight corners. My questing is what is the best power range. I was keeping it mostly between 6000-9000. Is that a good range?

There's definately a kick at 6 that doesn't tail off much.

stock ECU or Termi kit?   with the kit it'll hapilly go to 11.

but that range sounds fine....   

trackdays are great fun, huh?     if you keep doing them a cheap trackbike is a good alternative to sliding the RS into the gravel.

I have full terms on the bike, your saying 11 grand is doable? I thought 10 was the limit, but never did feel the rev limiter.

Nice.     You're about right on the range, but you can go lower and higher.  I don't know Willows specifically, but the nice thing about a Duc is that you can get low down in the range (even under 5k) and still have it pull.  You can keep it in gear, which sometimes works well in corners where you're trying to carry speed through out the entire thing.  Don't do it all the time, but there's a time n' place.

big time...your body position is a ways from where and how it should be...unless you want to slide your bike like Statler did.

when you feel like you're hanging off like an ape and it must look stupid......   you can hang off a little more and be fine.

lock that outside knee into the tank by pointing your toe/extending your calf.  Put your head where your inside mirror would be.  Open your hips to turn your body through the turn.  Get your chest down and in.

and buy a track bike so while you're doing all that with your knee on the ground at Loudon you don't slide your nice streetbike into the gravel trap outside of the bowl.

all good words from you guys, thanks! I was actually working on leaning off the bike a bit later as I got more comfortable. I definitely DO NOT want to slide my baby into the gravel, that would make me very sad. My buddy did slide it into the gravel right in front of me, definitely a pucker moment. There is a GSXR 750 track bike near me, but there is no room in the garage.

Dang, looks like those RSs have pretty good ground clearance.

Go for the Gixxer 750 and park it outside.    You wouldn't be sorry getting the 750 unless it's been thoroughly trashed. Maybe not even then. 

Loads of ground clearance on a Monster, heh.
