Ello,

I need a new helmet as the other one is smashed up. My Shoei XR1000 was great! Light, comfortable as hell and blocked out a lot of wind noise. Im not really looking at spening a grand, but my old Rjays one is heavy as hell, and rubd the back of my fat neck.

Been looking arounf online and noticed Bikebiz have the AGV K4 on special for $280. Has anyone had any experience with AGV? Comfy? Light? Etc?

Cheers Guys!

Cant wear 'em, just dont suit the shape of the bonce!! Dont buy a helmet until you've had a chance to put one on and see what the fit is like!!

Unfortunately/fortunately its Arais that fit my head perfectly, comfort from the get go! [thumbsup]

Plus TOP level workmanship and protection!!  [bow_down]

The fit is the thing!!  [thumbsup]

Definitely try before you buy!

I had an AGV about 15 years or so ago. (one of the povo models)Biggest piece of shit i have ever worn.

I'd imagine they would've improved since the 90's
For the price I don't think you could go wrong.

My Girl has a K4... she likes it.. I can't fit it on my head, but can feel the difference in padding between it and my Corsair.

The rule with helmets is to try them on to get an idea of fit, and their make..
Best bet would be to go to a local place, try some on and see what you like.. Then, if they can't do the price you want then start to look elsewhere.
Personally, I know that I'm pretty safe with just about all Arais... as long as they feel way too tight when I first try them on.. I have an Arai head.. Some people have a Shoei head.. yadda yadda.

.. If you're looking for cheap, I've heard some good things about Shark recently... They're a US make I think.. they're not going to set the world on fire, but they seem to be pretty good value.

.. If you're sure an AGV will fit you, I'd be considering their limited Ed AGO replica...

When I bought my new lid I went into MCAS after having them get me in a few models and colours for me to look at and try on.

I had 5 helmets lined up to try on and still ended up in an Arai.
On the line was a Shark, AGV, Shoei, Nolan, Arai
Lots of models in each brand.

I know that at the moment there are quite a few lids on the rack in front of the counter that have very low prices on them for seriously good items.

Buying a brand is always difficult as the others have said it might not fit your head.
I was really really keen on the Shark but it just didn't fit, I also liked the AGV Agostini but it didn't fit either.
Don't buy a brand buy what fits and go try heaps of them on buying online is an expensive gamble if you haven't tried it to make sure it fits.

My first lid was an AGV and I thought it was great - still got it 15years odd later but the foam is crap - so bought a Shoei and found out what I had been missing!  The way I look at it there is no price to big for head protection.  If you had a Shoei and loved it then stick with one!  ;D

I like the idea of the Shark and AGV helmets ... a helmet with a name any idiot (read: me) can pronounce.

Helmet names are just plain weird ... Shoei, Arai & Suomy ... bloody hell. The Boss loves her Suomy, its dead sexy ... but buggered if I know what its called.

My hubby just bought a AGV K4 Vyrus about a month ago and finds it very light and loves it.

Absolute bargain at $279 plus $8 freight to anywhere in OZ.

Hey Cakeman

I have the K3 (not K4) in gloss black... And so does my other half. To b honest the K3's linings werent as plush as others but I just had to try on a $1000 helmet didnt I...

There are two things you should be aware of:

1) The linings arent removable. I didnt care because theyre so cheap theyre disposable.

2) There isnt a cavity for the ears which felt uncomfortable   >:( at first. Absolutely fine after a couple of days - I just wasnt used to it.

I really wanted matching black preferably italian helmets [wine] so the AGV K4 ticked all the right boxes. They look mean with black visors [evil], which I can swap for the clears in seconds.

If u want the best price and great service, go to PMR (Picture Me Rollin) in Darlinghurst and speak to Pete or Simon. Very nice guys. Phone ahead just in case. Pretty sure I got ours for $160 each + $70 for a tinted visor.  [thumbsup]

I've got an AGV Stealth.  Removable lining  [thumbsup] Pretty light (lighter than my old HJC at least)  [thumbsup] and blocks enough wind noise for me to be happy  [thumbsup]

Hi there,

In reality, if you ask 10 people for advice, you're likely to get 10 different answers. The main reason for this is that no two heads are the same, so no helmet will fit two people quite the same.

Check out this website for all of the major manufacture's safety ratings; http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/

This is sponsored by the UK Government to provide crash safety ratings similar to how your car gets rated for the NCAP star rating system.

At the end of the day, I always figured that you should get the best (most likely = most expensive) helmet you can afford & look around for someone who's willing to do a deal.

I'll look for 'cheap' in a number of areas of my like, but not with safety gear, like a helmet. You only have one head after all!

Find a few that grab your interest, research them & go and try them on - that's the only way to really know what you're looking at.

Good luck !!!

I wear a GP Tech....because I don't want to pay the price for an Arai.

I like it compared to my old ARAI RX-7.

Doesn't mean shit. ;D

I got an AGV K4 Dread at the MCAS sale that started last week for a good discount. The lid fits perfectly and I had a hand me down AGV Rossi art prior so wanted to stay with the brand because I was happy with it. I had to go from a medium in the old to a large in the new probably because of a shell design change. Great air flow and really good fit plus a discount. Always a good result.

Hi C-man just walked away with the very same helmet
good price , nice fit and much quicker/easier visor removal system than my old but much loved Arai
very good value for a layered glass and kevlar helmet nice and light.
Was advised by the staff to stay away from the super cheap $170 K3 as it is only molded plastic .
I dont think it will be as quiet as the Arai but this is just meant to be for quick trips to work etc at
local speeds, I will give you a speed v sound review when DD  [leo] [leo]  finnishes  [cheeky]
