I took a ride down to the WW2 Airshow in Reading, PA yesterday and there were some interesting bikes.  Here's are some shots of the bikes and planes.  Also took a ride in a B17 Flying Fortress which was pretty cool...

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I'm sitting in St. Mere Eglise, France right now. The site of one of the largest airborne ops ever.
Tons of this bikes, jeeps, trucks, planes etc around.
They will be jumping out of C-130s (our guys) and have reenactors jump out of C-47s as well.

Yeah I have a cool job :D

Congrats on the Fortress ride!!  Looks like your son had the day of his life!!!  I've been hanging around warbirds most of my life but have yet to ride in one (dad got a ride in a P-51...lucky duck).

Speaking of Flying Fortresses...

One of those bikes would be one of my dream barn finds.

I loves me the sound of a radial engine. They make my wiener tingle.

The sounds are the best part; I'm partial to the Spitfire.  Also the B25s are loud as hell!

Yes, my son had a ball.  He was a bit overwhelmed at first in the B17 ride by the sound and the vibration, but after about 5 minutes he was all over that thing, including down in the nose turret.

I'd post some videos if I knew how to embed them (non-youtube).

My uncle was a ball turret gunner on the B-17, gawd does he have some cool stories !   [thumbsup]

Had a chance to do a flight in one several years ago at one of the air shows in the area but it was almost $400.00  [bang] ..................I promised myself that I would hook or by crook next time it was here.

I have an uncle who flew a Spitfire for the RCAF in WWII.  He doesn't talk much about it, actually does not talk about it at all.  Visiting him once, I picked up a book about the RCAF from his bookshelf and found a paper in it, it was a commendation.  He was in a dogfight during the Battle of Britain and ran out of ammo while pursuing a German fighter.  The German did not know he was out of ammo and my uncle managed to fly him into the ground.  Then, he flew back up into the fight, got on the tail of another German and flew him into the ground.   Took two German fighters out with no ammunition.  I think about this all the time and that's all I can do is think about it because it's beyond my imagination.

I mean this in the nicest possible way: I hate you.

I'm a big WW2 aviation fan (I've been to the temple museum at Wright/Pat AFB, I used to volunteer with a WW2 pilots group, I've met Chuck Yeager's wingman [although he points out, correctly, that Chuck was his wingman] ) and it's great you got to see see so many great warbirds in person.

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...
