So.... the sickness started as a kid... on:
Honda 110 ATV
Then to Kawasaki Quads
Then to Banshees
Then to Raptors....
Finally I got into street bikes....
Started with:
Kawasaki Ninja 600 (Early 90s model.)
2005 Ducati S2R 800
2008 Ducati 848
2004 Suzuki SV650s RACE
1976 Honda CB550-four
2002 Kawasaki Ninja 250 (I list as I rode it more than Julie did anyhow.)
2008 Ducati Multistrada 1100s
2005 Ducati 999
2005 Yamaha R6 RACE (Bought, set it up to race, and never rode it beyond a few laps in the neighborhood.)
2002 Ducati Monster 620dark (Listed again, as I rode it more than Julie.)
2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX600r RACE

I look back on all these bikes... and sometimes I think "where did all that money go...." but hell... it was a fun ride. Who else wants to list their rides???

Rode these quads my parents had when I was a kid:

Honda TRX125 quad (1989-90)
Honda TRX200 quad (1990-91)

Then a long spell on bicycles as a kid and teenager, until...

1973 Honda CL175 (my parents brought home from Dad's parents' place... I tuned it up and rode it the most)
2001 Ducati 900SS
2005 Honda CBR 600RR track project (rode once on side streets, now selling back to my brothers)
2000 Cagiva Gran Canyon

The ones in my sig line are just the ones I've owned.  The others were or are owned by my parents, I just rode them.  Ya know, now that I think about how young I was on those quads, I'm starting to think my parents were a little crazy.  I was six the first time I rode the 125.

1977 Honda XR-75
Puch 50cc moped (sold through Sears)
That was at 16.  I think I was 30 before I got my first street bike.
Yamaha V-Star 650
Kawaski ZR-7, nkaed version, not the half fairing.
Then a few years without a bike while I was back in school.
Ducati Monster 800 Dark (totaled by a nice little old lady with good insurance)
Royal Enfield C5

Not nearly as long a list as Ryan's but then again I think he should have to take off the CB.  I think he spent more time here writing about his title hassles with it than he spent riding it. :P

Labor rates ain't cheap anywhere.  This is why I do all the work I can myself, no matter what bike I have.  Well, and I really do like working on machines.

Could it be your voltage regulator is doing weird things? Happens sometimes when you jump a bike with a running car...

hhmm maybe but I don't see any fluctuating light output

in my other vehicles this has been the classic sign that the regulator is out

is it the same with a moto?

Check the battery voltage.  Should be around 12V or a bit more with the bike off, a little less at idle, should climb if you rev the engine but not get too high.  If it goes over 14.5-15V then the regulator isn't cutting it down like it should.  This can kill a battery.

on my monster the voltage is a tit low when reving

13.2-13.5

other than that it all checks out

Did you check the flux capcitor? In my DeLoreon, that was always the issue. Didn't have 1.21 gigawats it needed.

My S2R manual says 14.5V +-0.5V @3000 RPM in the section on checking the regulator.  You're kinda low.
