I'm working on an cooled motor in the 1215cc range - hope to have the 1st one ready for Daytona.

There has been talk about a seperate naked 4v model beside the Monster line. So that would still make his statement true.

Now that could actually work out.  Just imagine, take all the styling cues from the 696 and incorporate them into a "completely" new model line with the 4-valve engines.  That way they could leave the venerable Monster/S2R alone and move it more into the SC line.

Are you using a current Ducati motor as the platform Norm?
M-ROCin' it!!!

I'm using the 900 as a reference point & changing only what I think needs improvement or changes neccessary for the increased capacity. It will remain 2V.
The problem has always been that it's not something I can whip out myself. I need designers, code writers, machinist, etc., all of whom are enthusiest but still need to be paid.
It looks like everything will be billit.

Exactly,
Please give us all the new technology and keep the SR design as it is right now
Thanks

Amen, I would never complain about anyone's religion as long as they don't force it on me.

And, if any influencial Ducati execs are monitoring, I would like an SR style with the 848 powerplant in pearl white with black frame, wheels, and fenders.  Oh, and one of those fancy Race Only exhaust from Termi.

In an interview with Claudio Domenicali by Two Magazine

They ask... When will we see a Monster 848 or 1098?

He responds... I promise you will never see the 848 engine, or the 1098 engine in this bike.

That kind of puts down alot of the current speculation. Maybe they will come out with a whole new line that would be closer to a Aprilia Tuono
This bike he refers to could be the current range of SR monsters, nothing about a 696 derived NEW monster [thumbsup]
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

What's a ballpark figure on that as a "limited" production motor?  Considering going all out on a DS1000 motor for my '01 m900.  All internals lightened, new heads, 1080 big bore.  Looking at $4-$5k depending on how cheaply I can come across the donor motor.  The goal is a RELIABLE 100+ hp plant.

It's hard to guess what the total cost will be at this point, there are too many "little" things that come up. We're aiming for 100 ft/pounds of torque which (I think) will exceed anything Ducati has made.
If you're enthused about the project, $1000 invested now will give you rights to anything & everything at cost.
I have another meeting next week with one of the designers & might know more.
