I won't be out for the normal early, or whatever, run. I'm acting as one of the ground support folks for my boss's last bicycle race of the season, the Dick Evans race. I'm the last feed station group as the race passes Norfolk around 1000 to 1030 hrs. After that I'm free to join up wherever you guys are. Call me 265-1611 and I'll try to meet up. Got a Boxer Cup on hand that I'm breaking new tires in.  [Dolph]  It's all good any which way it goes.

BTW, there is a section up on Tantalus by the State Park down to the Manoa lookout that is covered in huge sections of cut grass courtesy of State/City&County workers. Massive Slackers that shot all the grass cuttings, huge clumps, all over the road.  :o   Bastard SOB's. Went through all that earlier this eve on a trial run breaking in some new tires on the Boxer.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

I'll see who shows up for coffee or jamba heaven and will trek to your neck of the woods.  Give me a call in the AM if you need an extra person at one of the stations...202 330 1495.

Luckily, I got to have a little fun at the track day hosted aboard K-bay this past Thurs...not a true track, but still a lot of fun  [Dolph]

Madji, you look a little crossed up in those pictures.  Try leaning your upper body into the turn instead of away from it, and hang off the bike a little.  Also try shifting your hips open into the direction of the turn.  Think of your seat as if it was a pintle mount, and you're the M2.  Rotate your hips into the direction of the turn until your outside knee locks into the notch of your tank.  From there, lean your lower body into the direction of the turn and imagine placing your head where the inside mirror is.  You'll be surprised and how much speed you can carry into the turn and not have to roll on the throttle quite so aggressively while coming out.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

Change of plans...I managed to pull my back out (again) moving furniture [bang]. Jing, sorry for cancelling out at the last second, hope you have a fun/safe ride.  Hopefully I'll be able to get an appt for a massage.

I was hugging the center of the bike most of the time...I've been having problems pulling my back out...this is the 3rd time in 2x weeks!  I did have a problem with bringing my body up a split second before the bike, which may explain the photos.    Minus my lack of lateral mobility, it was fun to ride on a closed course, where I didn't have to worry about cars coming across the centerline on the road.  I like your analogy of the pintle mount and the M2...now, I just need to remember my head-space & timing  8) M2 .50 head space & timing

It amazes me that they let people ride out there with T-shirts.   [roll]

When I registered, I was told riders were required to wear jackets w/ protective inserts for the track session...not sure where the disconnect was by allowing the guys ride w/ long sleeve T-shirts!  Fortunately bike spills are rare during these events....but I wouldn't want to be the guy that wins the lottery!

Speaking of common sense...I was filling up last night and started to walk towards a red 848 to invite the owner to the Jamba Juice run, but turned around after I noticed him flicking his lit cigarette...did I forget to mention we're at the gas station?!    [thumbsdown]

Yea PH requires only long sleeves, and only relfective vests at night.

What is that "track day" anyway?  I had no idea they did them besides AutoX at the stadium (for cars)

The Advanced Rider Track Day (ARTD) was a concept initiated by the  Marine Corps and developed with support from Keith Code's California Superbike School to improve rider safety and reduce our rising motorcycle fatality rates.

On the island, ARTD has gained joint service support, which enables all active duty service members to sign up.  While not a track in the truest sense, it's a coned off 1/2 mile road course, with S turns, reduce radius turn, hair pins and a fast sweeper.  Most of the speed is 25-45mph while negotiating corners (while getting low), a bit faster through the sweeper and straight away.  Students are provided a classroom session to teach a specific concept with an associated drill, the assigned skill is then practiced during a 20 min track session...riders typically get ~3-4 sessions in a day.  Coaches and corner workers are on-hand to flag individuals to correct errors on the spot.  It's a great venue to sharpen rider skills, build confidence and revisit rider safety...best of all, it's a safety event that the Marine Corps managed to keep fun instead sucking the fun out of it!

The Track Day that FFD is talking about is a different track experience than what you typically find on the mainland. Over there, of course, it is a different scene where full leathers and armor are required.

I was just taken aback by the fact that the track officials on base would allow riders in jeans and t-shirts to ride on a "track". Regular riding around on base streets is another thing. There could be an argument for armored / kevlar jeans but a long sleeved T is the barest minimal protection in a get off.  I can't help but notice that there is a slight disconnect in the "safety" concept (as FFD previously pointed out  [thumbsup]). They run the track day to help riders improve their skill and confidence but don't insist on proper safety gear. That said, most of the riders in the pics were pretty set for the conditions and only a couple/three in T-shirts. Oh well........

Just Jing and I this morning and a big thanks to the best wingman ever...Jing spotted a house key, of all things, stuck in my rear tire as we were about to depart JJ, it didn't penetrate the tire but the potential to do so was there...this is the second time he spotted something in my rear tire, the first being a nail while we were taking a break at the end of a pineapple road run.

Thanks again Jing!... [thumbsup]

You are welcome!  I guess I am just always riding behind you and I got an eye for bling bling in the tire :)

Saw Cary on his 'SupahBee' (bmw) heading town bound on Pali around 430 pm.
