I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

I know it won't.  My sarcasm didn't come through, will try harder.
I did rea it's not going to be 4g - hoping that's wrong

well, the carriers have basically changed the definitely of what 4G is... according to t-mobile (north america), hspa+ is 4g.

i think that's a decent possibility for the iPhone 4s, along w/ incorporating one of qualcomm's worldphone chipsets (no separate cdma phone).

i'm expecting a "true 4g" lte-capable iphone(5) next year when the corresponding chipsets get small enough, battery-efficient enough, and there's more widespread lte coverage.

I don't think we as consumers will ever see true 4g...
by the time all of the kinks get worked out, they will have moved on to calling it something different.
and charging even more for it.

I have an I pod video.

It still works like its supposed to.

I'm going to listen to last Saturdays episode of car talk on it on the way down to Marin county tomorrow.
Life is good..

I guess I figure if it breaks I'll look at the new stuff.

According to what I've read 4g reduces the battery life by half on most phones.  What a joke

IEEE 4g?

Or cell phone company 4g?

the itu-r backtracked and accepted hspa+ as a valid 4g technology.

that said, carriers have wimax and lte deployed in some cities, but it's certainly not widespread. i doubt we'll see the maximum speeds offered from these technologies, at least not in the US in the near future, but it doesn't really matter at the moment as all our carriers appear to be adopting 5GB caps on data plans.

3g was a similar drain on battery when it first appeared on the market. as lte and wimax get more mature and battery technology gets better, we'll gradually see longer talk/standby times from the phones.
