You should start your own thread, as this one is about the new iPhone.  :-*

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the War Room.

There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.  The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self. And in bacon.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

you only did it recently.

yes, but 4.x was available (again, free) for the iphone3g and 3gs well over a year ago...

the razr looks like a nice phone. i've seen conflicting information on whether it does/doesn't do lte. some spec sheets i've seen say it tops out at "just" hspa+ (like the iphone 4s).

it also won't come installed w/ android 4.x, instead shipping with 2.3.5, which brings me to another point. you assert that apple ios upgrade availability for specific hardware is at apple's whim. yet android upgrades are phone-specific and subject to being made available by the handset manufacturers or carriers. the 4.x update for the razr is reportedly targeted for 1q 2012.

Ah the old open environment vs walled garden debate.

if you want some more entertainment on this, pick up CNETs buzz out loud and go back a bit. Molly Wood gets very excited about the Thunderbolt then finds all sorts of issues with the OS fragmentation that's rife on the Android platform.

I deal with computer shit all day. When I was younger and had more time/energy something that was more open and I could f-with to my hearts-content was appealing. For many years I built my own computers from the case up.. and I still like to prod my computers.

But, a phone is a phone... I want it to work. I don't wish to worry about a kernel panic and bricking on a freaking phone because the cell service provider I have can't get their shit right. The android is a good platform, but there's too much control in the hands of folks who can't sort it out.

Yeah, the iphone is premium priced. Yeah, it tends to lag behind on the bleeding edge features that some of the other phones are sporting. But, mine's never given me issues, even when I poke, prod, jailbreak and open the case.

Oh and the app store isn't lousy with malware  ;D

For me, it didn't make any sense at all to buy a smartphone until someone built one that could handle this, among other indignities:

Casio G'zOne Commando Smartphone

The OS, apps, etc. were secondary considerations, well behind durability, and Apple doesn't want or need that market.

Plastic yes, but what about stainless steel?  7 mm thick...

It's 10mm total thickness btw.  The 7mm bit is a red herring. The majority of the body is 7mm thick, true true. But the camera sticks out the back like some optical wart. So total overall thickness, it's thicker than the 4 series of iPhones.

Looking at the abuse my phone case has taken, I prefer not to have an protrusions like the camera bumps. But there's android phones that meet that criteria

what are you using for your email accounts? exchange/imap/icloud? how many accounts?

what about your calendars?

push/fetch? how often? manual?

All of them are off.  I have two accounts but push is off.  I'll wait till weeks end but by 11 this morning it went from 100% to 63% with about 1 hour talk on 3G here in grand rapids where I'm traveling currently.

i've got 4 email accounts, all configured for exchange/push, and two calendars (icloud and google/caldav). i've gone from 100% to 85% in 8 hours with a 1.5hr support call to vmware on there.

you either got a bum battery, or there's some hidden battery-suck running on your phone.

I had the Droid X and now the Bionic, both with the Moto cam bump.  I thought it was very strange at first on the DX but quickly got used to it and liked it.  It gave me a good reference point when pulling it out of my pocket to know which end was up.

Wife has been bugging me to get an Iphone so we went out tonight and bought the new 4s + accessories.  What can I expect from this phone?  I know the iphone geeks are heartbroken that the 5 isn't out yet but we've never had iphones and don't use all those apps..

yet!
