Hey all,

My 96 M900 is making an unusual noise after I shut it off. It makes a kind of soft tone sound every few seconds up around the top of the engine or under the tank. It seems to have something to do with the heat of the engine as it goes away after it cools down. Anybody ever have this problem. The bike runs fine though.

Just curious... :-\

Like a real soft high pitched ringing noise? I noticed a noise like that coming from the tank. I lifted the tank up to take a look and the ringing went away. I lowered the tank and the noise came back. Really strange but I haven't cared really since the bike runs fine.  ???

Sounds like air trying to escape from your tank.  Your breather line may be pinched or something.  If opening the gas cap makes it go away, then that's your problem.

I get the same exact thing on my 97 M900.  Doesnt really seem to be an issue just a trait.

I'm glad you posted this. I've heard this on my '08 S2R 1k since new. It does it everytime without fail. My '06 never did it. What I've observed is that is continues as long as the amber imobilizer light is on, about 24 hours. It is a distinct low pitched beep that I attribute to something electronic. I haven't experienced  any problems, it's just always made me curious  ???
