I test rode an ST3 today and it got me thinking about the possibility of of stuffing a ST3 engine into a Monster frame and using one of those smaller Pace radiators. Has anybody ever done this before?  Any pictures of the results?

I can't remember hearing about anybody doing that particular swap, but it can't be that hard.1

Early Monster frames (Uhm... '02 and prior, or thereabouts?) were based on the 888 frame.

Later Monster frames were based on the ST.

Does the ST3 use the SBK type throttle bodies? That would be the only issue I see. That and the mounts for the radiators.

Hey Travman,

Would it be easier to put Monster bodywork on the ST3.

Thats if you want it to be easier.

This won't hurt much.... Trust me......

would be as hard as turning a sbk into a monster. lots of parts relocations

smaller radiators from pace?
I don't know much about them. There was a thread about them a while back. Basically they are more narrow and more aestically pleasing than stock radiators .

Yes, like Zarn02 said.  The only differences I know about is the extra frame rails in the tail section for extra passenger support for the ST's. Also, the ST frames will have tabs for mounting all the extra stuff.  The mounting of the engine to the frame and the swingarm to the engine are the same.

I was thinking of a 2002+ frame, but I don't see why an earlier version frame wouldn't work.

Not sure about the SBK type throttle bodies, but that is the kind of stuff I was wondering about. I'm thinking the induction, ECU, and gauges would be the biggest obstacles. Then mounting and minimizing a radiator and coolant expansion container.

I'd love to do something like that to my SC.  I think the extra scoot would really make that bike move right along, especially after an over-bore and high comps.   [evil]

The ST motors are Monster width.  That's one hurdle already jumped.

It is not a bad looking engine.  Pretty much just like the 1000 DS without the cooling fins.

Shame about the wet clutch though...
