Here's a neat ESPN video that my friend's older brother, Charles Nearburg/Spirit of Rett, is featured in. Leslie Porterfield (the world's fastest woman on a bike/232mph!!) is also featured. She runs High 5 Cycles here in Dallas and is a great gal!! A real sweatheart in person who also happens to be a hell of a bike rider. She ain't skeered!! [laugh]

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:7190038

Charles is running a smaller block motor in these runs than last year when he broke the 40+ year record set by the Goldenrod streamliner at 414 and change. He told me last year at his neice's wedding that he hoped to go faster than 414 with the smaller motor. Didn't happen but he still got a record out of it! [drink] [clap] [bow_down]

Crazy fast stuff! Neat story (in a way) that Charles named his streamliner after his late son. Rett was an incredible young man who lost an 11 year battle with cancer on Friday January 14, 2005 at the age of 21... unfortunately the same night I asked my wife to marry me. Happy date in one respect and horribly sad in another. Life goes on. And Charles honors Rett's spirit and life with the 'liner and his accomplishments. I'm proud to say I know Charles and Rett. Great folks!

While we may have the lion's share of the market, we Americans don't by any means have a monopoly on stupid.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Don't mean to get off track of driving at 462mph but stupidity does seem to be the only thing in abundance these days. Doesn't speak well of humanity.

Back to speed!! [thumbsup] [Dolph] [popcorn]

I cant be the only one who isnt really impressed by this? As far as balls, yeah. If something went wrong it would be catastrophic and you need to be able to deal with that mentally.

But as far as excitement? I just dont think that would do it for me.
Think of it as decisions per second. In that video, all the more he does is hang on and make sure he goes between the two cones every few seconds. They approach from the distance slowly at first, then whip by. Compare that to the sensory overload of, say, whipping through downtown alleys at 60MPH on a Hypermotard. You'd have a lot more to deal with...decisions per second...and I think the adrenaline rush would be greater vs sitting and praying while accelerating in a straight line.

Its cool and all, but if i had a choice to do anything in the world for thrills, this would barely make the list of considerations.

Charles said on his Bonnie runs he would focus on a point on the distant mountains that surround the salt flats and stay focused on it the whole run. Sort of like a good version of target fixation. He would notice the cones but would stay fixed on his visual reference point in the distance. Interesting take on the whole driving experience.

It's not particularly comforting to hear that from a guy with a thing for buttered ponies.  :-\

To me it's not the driver its the machine, to make something that runs on cylinders to go that fast is whats mind boggling.  Like just think how fast the transmission components are spinning at 400 mph.
I live vicariously thru myself......
