I realized I was way out of my league the first time I opened a bottle of cheap Russian vodka and realized that the cap wasn't re-usable. Because really, once the bottle's open, Russians don't really understand why you'd want to close it again.   

The one time I tried to keep up was at a session in a funky little artist's apartment somewhere in Moscow. When the vodka ran out, we switched to brandy. When the brandy ran out, we switched to Georgian wine. When the wine ran out, he brought out the last thing in the cabinet - a green, two liter bottle of something funky, medicinal and a bit off. About a liter and a half in, I remember swimming through the fog to try to make out the Cyrillic spelling on the bottle. Fer... Fer... huh, what's that? Ferm... Fermutt. Fermutt... OK, then; when the bottom of the barrel is full of bad Russian Vermouth, the only thing to do is drink that barrel dry.

The drinking until it runs out, then switching to something else, then repeat, etc. sounds eerily like my guy's time out at my friend's west TX ranch/shooting festival last week. My Suburban was much lighter on the return trip home from the ammo dump and bottles of liquor and beer consumed. Neither of which is a bad thing.

If you need to really deserve a drink.....
