That thing is sweet...

but we'll have to put it somewhere besides the attic...maybe the barn.

It's a bit larger than I planned for.  [laugh]

Can't be, there's no Animal to turn it.  [laugh]

Mother

am I old enough to remember the good ol' days?

When I was a millwright I would love to walk in to see gear like that

it meant that mating surfaces wouldn't deform from over-torqing

you could use the full-sized handled set of tools to remove bolts.... + the 4-foot Billy

Torque specs were "when the tools stops moving"

I miss that job sometimes

when do you install it?

this thing is in the basement of PS 14 in Corona
I wonder when it last ran?
If you notice the fan was converted to run off an electric motor but that even looks like it's 70 years old
Can't seem to find info on how old the building is

That is a fanfreakingtastic steam engine.  I wonder if you put a water tank and solar collector array of mirrors on the roof, and ran the steam pipes, down to the basement, whether you could save money running the engine on solar heat vs using the electric motor.

I'm no solar expert, but I have serious doubts about being able to generate enough steam via current home/commercial solar technology to get that old beast to budge...

never mind run.

Please prove me wrong.

All silliness and kidding aside, it WOULD be pretty kickass to have something like that in place and performing a support function in a home.....

I wouldn't be surprised if they would just let you have it if you said that you'd get it out of there for free.
Oh, and there are two of them there.
