Not looking for credit. But that is, or rather should be a concern for anyone looking at a 748. Good idea to have Hiero chip in! [thumbsup]

I'm not actively looking for a track bike, but sure would love to get one.  Toy budget is tied up right now.  Maybe someday.  Might be cheapest to resurrect one of my old racebikes, but I don't think AMS would let me play with the Duc group on my green machine.

haven't said anything because everyone seems to have really given about the right info  ;)

and unfortunately, at the moment, my 748's giving me a lot of fits and I've shelved it till this weekend.  It's sitting in my garage in pieces at the moment trying to get new MBP collets, belts, and valve adjustment in.  The rockers were replaced at some point before I bought the bike, and unfortunately, it looks like they were replaced with OEM rockers, and I have found flaking chrome in my oil  :(  I haven't seen any flaking on the vertical rockers, but will have to check again, I'm guessing it's the horizontal rockers that are flaking now.  But I did find the opening clearances on almost all the openers were very high, .007 to almost .010 on at least one...

Bad juju. That series of bikes really need that issue attended to. It was a concern when I got Jari's 996S with over 12K on the dial but it has been blessed by AMS. Still it's an issue in the back of my head... when is it going to crap out? Now or never? Just something you have to stay on top of. Actually it's good when it happens and you get it fixed. You can sleep better at night.

if I had the money, I would just replace all my opening rockers with megacycle rockers just to make doubly sure.  That's the reason I went to the MBP collets too, just for my own sanity, which it turns out was a good idea.

I found at LEAST 2 sets of OEM half-rings that were in 3 or more pieces.  The 748 engines were pretty good at doing this to the half rings with the extended high RPM running...
