Laptop backpack for bike use...

So I need some suggestions for a laptop backpack for work...
Requirements are: Must be comfortable, capable of carrying my laptop AND an extra set of clothes daily with the ability to use for weekend trips as well, and be in the neighborhood of $60 as that is what I get for an allowance for work.

I have looked at 2 Targus backpacks and like both of them but no experience with them in actual use. And I really want omething that would be comfortable to wear for extended periods of time...

how far do you have to travel? Id pork some extra $ for a nicer pack that can double for other functions as well. most laptop specific bags are $60, but they dont consider a motorcycle rider.

A bit over your price limit, but I really like my Mobile Edge laptop backpack. I have the Premium one.

I can easily fit a lot of stuff in, it's very padded and comfortable. Not only have I worn it all over on the Duc, I have done 50+ mile rides with 20 pounds in it on a bicycle.

Does it have a chest strap? I have found a chest strap makes a world of difference. Without it you get a lot more pressure on the shoulders when in the riding position.

I emailed Tom Bihn about creating a motorcycle friendly backpack but didn't get a response. I have one of their Empire Builder shoulder bags and love it. It'd be nice to have that level of quality and attention to detail in a pack.

I have a Targus laptop back back. It's OK and you can carry some extra clothes. It has a waist strap to keep it from shifting. If you pack smart it might fit your needs.

+1. I have a very similar model and it works wonders. There are stomach and chest straps that make a huge difference. I don't carry a set of clothing every day but mine easily carries my lunch and a windbreaker in one of the many pockets. the straps have held up over the past two summers. My commute is 20 miles each way.

some north face backpacks have laptop sections in them.. some models also come with chest and waist straps.

I just got an Adidas business backpack (made in cooperation with Taylor Made, a pretty good Golf equipment & accessory company) with my credit card rewards. It has a good spot for the laptop, files, a change of clothes, lacing for a water bottle, stationery, and pockets on the sides for other stuff. Has a fastener on the chest so it doesn't wiggle at all while riding. Most online retailers sell it for about $70.

I think that Targus bag is from the same factory in China...

Actually I used one for Laguna Seca for 2 days with a small Tank Bag. It carried enough clothes and junk to make it through the weekend.

I can fit a full size Lap Top all though I have a mini for work now. They offer models with really good back support and have fasteners that dont move at all when your riding... Since they are made for hiking etc.

Plus if you get thirsty you can drink as you ride

those camel packs remind me of the stillsuits from Dune.

I've been using a padded neoprene sleeve and dropping my macbook in my eastpak bookbag. I'm in the market for a new bag as well, but it's further on the list. I want a new jacket first, then a new bag.

i have a tried wearing the chrome messanger bags during riding and personally find that with the chest strap on the bag still slides down your back.

i just bought one of their computer bags taht sits more squarely on your back but still has the messenger bag style straps on it to see if it will owrk better for me. hopefully it does. i personally like the seat belt buckle on the chrome bags as you can take on and put on the bag without having to take off your helmet each time.
