Has anyone heard anything about a redesign for the Multistrada?

unfortunately, given the new white strada being offered for 09...looks like we will have to wait another year

We have mentioned before that Ducati is working on a replacement for the much maligned Multistrada to go head-to-head against the BMW 1200 GS. It now seems that the bike will use the 1100DS motor currently used in the Hypermotard rather than match the BMW's capacity, and a likely name is 'Strada Aperta' or open road. Again, the Milan Show is the likely public debut.

The new colors are for the Cologne show. Milan might still show us the new design for 2009. (They need to hurry if they want to get to 10 new models by 2010, supposedly 3 new this year)

If they made an adventure tourer i would be very interested.  I want one as my 2nd bike bad but right now i think the KLR650 would be the best choice ;D, when it comes down to full outfitting the bike and not breaking the bank.

If i went with the 800gs i would just say "make the beast with two backsit" and get the 1200 i know myself lol.  Cause i would really want that shaft drive!

I looked at a F800GS yesterday and it's a nice bike.  I'm strongly considering getting one for some cross-country touring.  I debated the R1200GS for a while but, IMO, it's just too much money for something that ugly.

The problem with the Multi is not function but appearance. I would say most GS riders never venture off road, now I know some go globe trotting but most don't. The Multi is a great bike that is under appreciated.

I'd have to agree.  But I don't think the Multi will go head to head with the GS.  The Multi just doesn't have the cred.

I'd think it'd be a better competitor to the Tiger and the Strom.  Keeping in mind most Multi buyers don't go off road, but the long suspension is a hoot to ride!

Isn't Milan coming up in November?  Think we'll see pics at that time?

I wonder how the multi does in dirt roads/logging roads.  That is where the bmw shines.

The issue with the 1200gs is the weight.  I road one and it felt like a truck, hence my thought on the 800gs

I'd personally like to see the Multi gain a little more off-road capability. I'm thinking about an Adv-tourer....but I'm leaning more the way of the KTM adventure, because I want to go off-road

I agree...Ducati building an off-road oriented bike, ala the GS or KTM is a mistake. I'm a Duc fan, and if I wanted a bike in that class I'd get either a BMW or a KTM, hands down. The MTS is great because it's a comfortable sport bike.

The current Multi is already a direct competitor of the latest Tiger. Triumph has dropped all off road aspirations in the new model. The V-Strom is more in the class of the GS/KTM since is has a large front wheel (similar to the new Guzzi Stelvio). I've ridden my Multi on logging roads. It does OK. Main issue is I won't take it over anything too hairy as I'm afrad to drop it for the $$ and no protection...but I'm not afraid of the occasional dirt road now and again.  [thumbsup]

If I was running Ducati the new Multi would be:

-- Available in 2 forms...the biggest air cooled engine (1100 as of now), as well as the 848 engine.
-- Both would be wet clutches  :o as these bikes are meant to be ridden A LOT.
-- Both would have a SSS to make maintenance easier.
-- All trelllis frame similar to current model.
-- Very similar seating position to current model.
-- Brakes from the 848/hyper.
-- There would be no S model, but there would be an "S kit" available consisting of Ohlins forks and shock.
-- The cockpit would be kept very compact, as it is now...maybe necessitating another split screen design.  ???
-- The fairing would be redesigned to be more flowing...I'd probably start with the D16 nose, and see what happened. It wouldn't end up looking like that, but it'd be a starting point.

The MTS is a great bike, but some just cant get over its looks. I think they'd sell a ton of them if they looked better.  [thumbsup]
