Age old question - Termi, Arrow or stock?

I purchased an 07 S2R 1000 October 07 and have read that termi pipes work the best but there are nominal gains in horsepower.   Talked to an "05 S2R 1000 owner with Arrow pipes (dual) and he indicated bike runs great, didn't purchase a new ECU which would of course drive the cost way up.

What's the best course of action?

anything but stock.
however, if the bike is running well, you may have to do some tweaking to keep it that way after changing the pipes

Sometimes, people that say this just don't know how much better the bike can run if it is tuned correctly.  I used to think mine ran well with the stock ECU, but now I know better....

A note on the Arrows. They are "rattle your fillings loose" loud, unless you get a system with baffles. Then you can keep the fillings in your rearmost molars.  [laugh]  I checked out an S4 with them before I bought my Termi's. Ouch! But try to go and find a bike with them and listen to them, you might like 'em. But I wanted to give you the heads up...

what is your goal with changing pipes (what exactly would you like to change about your bike as it is now) and what is your budget?

I'm going to bump this into accessories and mods if you don't mind as you'll get more input there since there's no specific tech question yet.
It's still buy a flounder a drink month

+1  There's a used Monster S2R 1000 at the local shop here with a set of CF Arrow cans w/ full pipes and the thing is absolutely and rediculously loud.  MJ let me fire it up outside and rev it a little (a LITTLE) and it sounds meeeeeeeeeean.  As far as performance and your choice between the two:  definitely get it tuned and don't limit yourself to just arrow or termi.  If you sit down and take a couple of hours you'll find there are many many many more options out there, some of which just may be more appealing.

I put the full termi system on my bike (slipon, headers, ecu, airbox).  bike has 95hp stock at the crank, mine dynoed at 95hp to the wheel.  plus it wasnt running lean anymore which is nice

I love my cf arrows but I only have the s2r 800 so it is probably a little bit quieter......I don't think I could go back to stock ever again but at the same time I have never tried termis......whatever you do get rid of that damn utter  [cheeky]

termis there is no substitute..... (yes i'm copying the old porsche tagline)

personally i think they sound the best and look the best.  others may disagree, they are allowed.  termis are usually more expensive than other options, again that may be an issue to consider.

there are many fine products out there that do basically the exact same thing, the only differences are cost, aesthetics, and sound, i doubt highly that the hp gains of one compared to another are that great if you compare similar products, ie slip on vs slip on, or full vs full of competing brands with a PCIII tuned for each model correctly.

Statler,  Thanks for the move to this section.  Got a higher volume of response.   My goal would be to get some additional horse to the wheel, and I wouldn't mind improving the lawn mower sound of the stock pipes as well.   I didn't know if the horsepower gains would be worth at least 2K .....

How does the Quat-D Ex-box compare?  I really like how it cleans up the back of the bike.

The Termi kits are engineered to perform as an integrated unit by the people who designed and built the bike.  Maybe others know more about Ducatis, but I kinda doubt it.  The ECUs are the coupe de graci as it were - the essential piece you don't get except from Ducati.

The kits are expensive, but old sayings got to be old sayings for a reason and you really do " get what you pay for".

I just a put a full Termi kit on my bike (cans, ecu, air filter) and the bike runs a lot better. The sound of the pipes are nice with the baffles in. Take them out, and man is it a beast. I took them out this weekend and my ride to work yesterday was a little rough.

Oddly enough, while I was screaming along on the highway, the sounds wasn't as tough to bare. But at lower speeds, lower rpms, that deep growl was tough to take and was actually amplified by my helmet. Bottom line, wussed-out and put the baffles back in.

But the bike does sound better and RUN better with the Termi kit.
