How much of a thief magnet are our Monster or Duc in general?

Have you all look at the "stolen motorcycle" section on this board lately? I'm sure the immobilizer wont stop a thieve from stealing our Duc and parted it out for profit. Or is it that our Duc are so rare that it is hard for thieves to find markets for our parts? I think not! So how much of a thief magnet or thief deterrent are our Duc?

What have you done to try to deter thieves away from your beloved Duc?

hbliam

I park mine in my garage at night, in a secure garage at work in the day time, and if on a ride having lunch or something, it's never parked out of my sight.

The market isn't as great for Duc parts as there is for other bikes. But that doesn't stop theifs...

The bike stays in the garage at night.
At work it stays in a gated parking lot w/ badge access only.

Everywhere else, I park it where ever. Thats what full coverage is for.

Did not really think the addition of such was a great idea...  [roll]
it's always a problem, but not such we need a dedicated section of the board for it.

There's two incidents there so far, and one is a Gixxer....

What happens if your bike does get stolen? Does your insurance cover the value of the bike? What about all the mods?

LA

I guess I could do better than leaving the key in mine  and my helmet on the tank all day at work. It's a nice little university town.

I do park it in my garage at night, with the key in it.

I leave the key in my truck all the time too.

Just been lucky I guess.

Varies by insurance company.

I specifically asked last time I was in the office. State Farm, full coverage. I'm covered for the value of the bike and any mods that I've got receipts for.

Got a binder and some clear sheet sleeves and I've started filling it. Slowly.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Key in the bike, in a university town?  I live in one of those too...but wouldn't go leaving my keys in my vehicle!  I have a friend in town who used to go by the "I leave my house unlocked and my keys in the car" philosophy. But it didn't work.  It took 3 weeks to get his suburban back after some dude stole it from his driveway and lived in it in san francisco for the duration.  He locks his shit up now.  I do too.

Varies by insurance company.

more importantly, you have to have that type of coverage.

If a theif wants your bike, he will get your bike. The best thing you can do is to put a lojack on it. aside from that, is detterent. A bike with anytype of detterent is better than none. disc lock, alarm, chain ,etc. If a theif looks at your bike with any of these features and sees another bike without any of these features, hes gonna go for the other bike.

I just purchased a Xena Disc lock, it has a built in alarm. The second you touch the steering wheel (which in turn would move the front wheel) the alarm goes of. 110dB is sure to get attention, and if you throw it into a mini van, the driver would probably tell you to just drop and leave it. Great little device. only $110.

Ill write up a review on it.

With comprehensive, thief coverage is included and you'll be covered for the value of your bike (their value NOT yours - their value is usually lower than yours). Foremost automatically covers up to $3000 of mods and accessories with comprehensive coverage. You can always add more coverage for your mods and accessories with added premium. Again, like Obsessed said, it varies with who you go with.

I'm indecisive when it comes to installing a lojack.

On the plus side:
It now include an early warning system that will notify you via text message or some sort that your bike has moved.
You can get $5000 towards your new ride if they cant recover it (an additional $100).
You'll stand a good chance of recovering it.
It may put a thieve in jail or, even better, foil a chop shop.

On the down side:
Your ride may end up in a high speed chase and crashed or
Your ride is recovered too late after half an hour in the chop shop. I'm sure the thieves and the police will handle your beloved in pieces with great care [roll]. So you ended up with a pile of parts on your door step. With both scenario your comprehensive policy will cover it if you have it.
Not to mention the $900+ price tag

With Insurance, you'll have recurring premium you'll have to pay where as with Lojack it is a one time premium.

Any more high and low points you guys can think of on the Lojack?

So is it worth getting Lojack when you already have thief coverage? or vice verse?

Looks like a great thief deterrent device. Thanks for mentioning it He Man. I'll have to check that out [beer]

I think the monster is less of a theft target than a comparable value, comaparable powered full-fairing sportbike.  around here (atlanta), there is a booming chop shop business, where bikes are stolen, chucked in vans, parted and on ebay within 24 hours.  that sort of thing revolves around common models with expensive plastics.

a couple years ago, my husband's daytona 675 was stolen, and my s4r parked next to it was untouched.  the thieves couldn't even be bothered with it.

ryandalling

Local guy here had his S2R stolen from his Apartment complex... they pushed it down the street, shoved a screwdriver in the ignition, and tried to start it... when that didn't work... they kicked it to the ground... and left it there. I don't know if it was better for him, or worse, for it to have been recovered and to replace any and all damage.

one big disadvantage for me with lojack is i live in san diego, 15 mins from mexico, lojack dont work in mexico, or else i would still have my truck :(

I was going to have Lojack put on my new 695. They were going to knock $300 off the price. With the option I wanted they will give you $5000 if your bike is not recovered (that is separate from what your insurance gives you). The problem is that when they checked with Lojack, they can't install it properly on a 695. They can't hide it in one of the six allowed locations. It's visible. So, no Lojack for me.

i can park my bike in the locked staff eating area. Not perfect, but better than out in the parking lot where all the middle schoolers swarm.
Is it June yet?
