They are all over the city/ country / world now. I hear there is one in North Beach. I'm going to go check it out.

Invented by REBAR Group, Inc. - the crazy art/ designers who take on urban challenges. The idea: put parks, as in places to sit in the grass, in parking spaces, as in places to put a car.
We did a huge one last year in the middle of a gang infested neighborhood. See images.

It's a response to the over developing of pavement, and the eradication of places to chill out anywhere in a city without having to buy something while doing it.
75% of the surface of San Francisco is devoted solely to moving and parking cars. This is actually good compared to places like Phoenix and Huston which are upwards of 80 - 85% streets and parking lots. Really sick  [puke]  [bang]

Ingredients: Trees, grass, a parking spot. (Put $ in the meter) Rock band, BBQ.

Talk like a Pirate Day is still my favorite Sept 19th celebration.

Gotta love S.F.  All you freethinkers over there.  Here's to keeping it outside the box.   [thumbsup]

Ha ha! Very cool!

I like the idea -transforming streets into parks for a day. Something to consider for sure...

That has to be just ground surface. They must not account for all of the floorspace in S.F. which has to be considerable since almost every building has at least 2 floors & it seems like most everything North of Market has at least 3.
