uncomfortable grips

I am finding that after about 1/2 hour my hands (especially throttle) get numb/sore. I try moving them in different positions and have the little flat thing for the heel of my hand. It's just not good. I am planning on installing Dual Star heated grips. I'm thinking about getting different grips while I'm at it. Any good advice on new grips or ways to alleviate the annoying numbness/pain of my present grips (695)?

I find the Grip Puppies very comfortable. Apply with soapy water or old-lady-hairspray. After about 5 k miles mine had moved half an inch outwards, so I recommend trying grip glue - which you can apply after putting the grips on, by rolling them half way towards the center from both sides. Don't know how they work on heated grips.

one thing to try before changing too much.... rotate the controls down.   Every Duc I have ridden stock has the levers too high, which puts your wrists at a bend, which puts pressure on your wrists and things go numb.       With the levers much further down, your wrists are straight and feel better.

Maybe not enough, but cheap and easy to try.

There's a good chance its an ergonomics problem and not a type-of-grip problem.  In addition to rotating your controls, can you move the levers inward/outward?  Also, if you have a strap on your glove around the wrist, loosen it up.

+1 on what Stats and Spidey said. I had problems w, my #1 S4Rs and the riding position and grip causing painful wrists.

I just took the platic caps off the ( in my case )   4 bolts and looseened them a little each until I could rotate the bar into a position that felt more comfortable.

I then torqued ( the bolts need to be loosened w, a torque bit ) the bolts tight and put the plastic caps back on them and that took care of my wrist problems.

You will want to have the brake and clutch resivoirs adjusted so that they are once again level.    Dolph

Thanks for all the advice. I'm taking it in for a 600 mile service this week (plus adding new exhaust). I will have them help me make adjustments for a better fit.

I found that loosening my hand pressure on the grips has made my hands less sore on longer rides. I was white knuckling under the gloves, but making a conscious effort to loosen my hands has helped a lot.

If your other fixes don't work, you can try to rotate your grip a little bit so it's more like holding a tennis racquet than a baseball bat.  I get the same problem on long rides and this alleviates it somewhat.  Or I'll put my thumb on top of the bar instead of wrapped under.
