Even if we're not at the bottom, if you invest right now, you WILL be in great shape in ~ 5 years.  Honestly, there are some serious deals on some amazingly strong companies right now.  Apple is an amazing value, they have HUGE cash reserves.  I'm pretty heavily vested in Apple, but I would easily buy in another 100 shares if I had the $$$ right now.  Google has been hammered as well and with the Android system and Google Chrome, there is some great upside there.

I wouldn't buy GM however, we may be losing them VERY soon...
[thumbsup] Been telling our clients that as well. It's funny, so many financial planners are pulling their hair out and we've had good accts(for our size) walking in the door through this entire debacle. All referrences from current clients, and most because we've been pro active and called them before they got worried enough to call us.

Yeah, but at 5 bucks a share... that's hard to pass up. Same with Ford at two and change. I read that their combined market cap was under $7B. That's crazy.

I dunno.  There's an entirely too-real possibility that GM could fold.  At those prices, it's not a terrible idea, but I won't be putting my $$$ in it.

Actually maybe a great idea... could end up another govt backed security. $20 says if they fail the govt. steps in to save them too. Fannie/Freddie/Insurance/Banking/and now automotive.... we're the new Russia.

Either GM or Ford is a good deal.  There's NO WAY they will completely fold up.  They will likely get bought by either a German or a Japanese company and get restructured (losing the heavy Union contracts which have long been the noose of the so-called 'Big 3').

My $.02 and I'm not a stock analyst.   ;D

You're pretty much on the money. Right now, even if they fold, GM and Ford have more asset's than stock value, so if you buy now, they fold and sell off everything, you still make money.

Might be, might not be - hard to say really.  My real point here is there are far better deals for far better companies than GM (or ford for that matter).

Yes, but they also have GIANT debts that get paid before any stockholder does.  There's no certainty whatsoever that any stockholder would see one shiny nickel.  I can guarantee that the Unions' retirement plans and their healthcare plans will get $$$ before Joe common stockholder gets nickel #1.

True, but $5 a share is a pretty good price. Beer or GM?

On second thought......maybe I'l stick with  [drink]

Be careful, that beer might lead you to make poor financial decisions - like buying GM ( or a GM for that matter).

If you had $10,000 to spend, would you put it in GM or Ford?

Ford.
